250R carb question

Hi guys I have my 88 R and my buddies 87 R we are both having carb problems. They want to load up and blow alot of smoke and arent snappy. I used to be able to clean my old carb on my 1986 R and it would work for awhile. Would just rebuilding the carb help the problem or should I buy a new Carb? Doen anyone know why these carbs do this? Thanks

sounds like yur jetting is to rich or is the float stuck open? make sure yur fuel lines not kinked, or plugged too

I had the same problem once with one of my stockers. I would clean the carb and it would run fine for a few days, then all of the sudden one day it would start fine and then load up real bad. On occasion fuel would come out of the overflow. I replaced the float valve and set the float hieghth and such but still had the same problem, but only every once in while. If you look at the float valve the tip is covered in rubber. If the rubber has a tear or crack in it, it can cause the bowl to still fill up when the float is raised. Other guys have told me that over time the seat for the valve wears out and can cause this. My suggestion would be to replace it you can get yourself a Keihin for a little over a $100

I had a problem with my stock carb loading up real bad. I replaced it with a 39mm keihin carb and it seems to work much better. I figured it was better to replace it with a new one than to try a rebuild. Not to mention better performance over stock.

I dont know if money is an issue or not, but for a stock motor an aftermarket carb is a night and day difference. I put the mikuni TMX on my R and it runs like a champ. ESR had it prejetted, all I had to do was bolt it on. Havent had a single problem, never fouled a pllug or anything. I would recommend just going with a new one if you can. If not used ones sell cheap, I'm sure you could find a good used one.

You Know I actually have a brand new mikuni I bought from LSR I think they were take off carbs from CR250s?? might be a 39? The carb doesnt fit in the boot very well but the biggest problem is making a cable. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I would go about getting a cable that would work? Thanks

Motion Pro probably has the cable your looking for. I'm not sure of the part # for a Mikuni, but thats where I got one for my airstryker. The boot will fit, there are several methods people use, I just throw it in a pan of boiling water for a few minutes to soften it up and It goes right on.
