    with just the piston alone, not really.
    with the piston and a good cam, a stage 1 or 2 or a web cam, then yes.
    but the higher compression you go the the more reliabilty you will lose. i dont suggest goin past 11:1 with a stock rod, although its good insurance to get a HD rod with even that, any thing above 11:1 its pretty mucha must on the HD rod.

    well ive been running 11:1 with the stock rod for a loong time now and its doin fine...
    96 300ex- about all the speed mods. 14t/33t. wiseco .060 11:1 comp, stage 3 WEB cam, heavy duty valve springs, black diamond valves, mikuni 38mm flateslide carb, port/polished head, barnett clutch & springs, k&n filters, curtis sparks exhaust... FST oil cooler... aftermarket rims tires bumpers bars... nerfs kill switch skid ceet graphics... A LOT of other things...

    If your going with a higher revving cam, than a higher compression piston will make up for the lose in the bottom end. So pretty much the more compression, the more bottom end and tourqe, just less reliable
