    stock 250r vs. new 450R

How do you think these two bikes compare, in handling, jumping or just plain riding? im talking bone stock right off of the showroom floor. in my opinion I would take a moddoed 250r anyday, but what bike would win a modern day shootout? would the 250r lose badly?

i'd bet my money on the new stock R waxing the old stock R's ***. it isnt that the stock 250r is junk, it just doesnt have what the new R has. the new R owes its life to the 250R & 400ex....and a few piss poor politicians

Stock the 450R would wax it. Still, I would enjoy the ride on a stock R more than I ever could on a 450R.

Overall yes the 450R is going to win. But I still think the 250r handles better than the 450R. I dont feel near as comfortable in the air on a 450r as I do my 250R, but then again thats just seat time. I myself would also rather have a pimped 250r than a 450 anyday.

Stock vs. Stock.........the 450 is better in just about every aspect in my opinion.

I had a MX modded 310 and it was a handful to ride but very fast. It handled like a dream and was very neutral in the air along with responding very well to rider input in the air. My 450R handles just as good as my 250 did except I believe my 250R was a lil' more precise in turning. As far as in the air, I had problems with the nose being up in the air at first but after some seat time, its not a factor anymore.

Overall though, I'd prefer my 450R for a few simple reasons. First off, maintence! Its a lot easier keeping a 4-stroke race quad up than a 2-stroke, heh. I also feel that I am faster on the thumper because its a lot easier to ride and i dont get tired like I did on my 310 after 5-7 laps of hard riding.

I loved my 310 but the new age thumpers are great.....I wish I coulda kept my 310 as a dune quad but the 450R needed parts so the 310 had to go!! Heh, thats very sad to say....

I think a stock 450r would beat a stock 250r, I had a fairly stock 250r and I rode my friends 450r, yes the 450r will beat it, but it would be very interesting if honda did release a 250r with a powervalve, 88/89 geometry, better shocks, that one would be a tough call, one thing for sure you would have 2 honda's from different era's closely competing for the #1 slot. I like the way the 250r sits alot better than a 450r, the 450r is way too tall, but also so are all the new quads, so honda was following the bandwagon. In my opinion the motor is what really makes the bike, it would be awesome with a-arms, 0 preload shocks, wide axle, smaller tires. I didn't like it too much in stock form, other than a curtis sparks pipe. maybe it was just me, since I was riding my 330r trike, one thing I can't get used to with quads(now) is bump steer, my trike has 0 bump steer, and riding a quad its totally different and all I feel is bump steer. just for the record, I'm building a 88r, don't plan on riding it alot, only so I can go to other places to ride. I know for sure I'll ride my trike alot more and thats why the aftermarket parts aren't coming off it.

I have a pretty much stock 88 250r and after riding my buddies 450 I'd have to say the new 450 would spank it depending on rider.

We have 2 '87 250r's with 310's. My son has raced both bikes and has no problem keeping up with the YFZ or the new TRX450. Even gets the holeshot once in a while. One extra gear means a little more shifting but nothing, I mean nothing, handles like these two bikes. I love them. Sponsored by "Lonestar" and "DFR."
