    the wd in wd40 stands for water displacement, which is what it does really well, it displaces water. it is great to use after a ride to rinse the crap off of your LUBED chain.

    as for the exact question you asked: wd40 is a great choice; if your other choice is nothing at all. chain lube made specifically for o-ring chains is made and sold for a reason. it is the best stuff to lube your chain with. if wd40 was the answer to all lubing needs, the lube specific companies would go out of business because wd40 is alot cheaper. go to the web sites of some of the manufacturers of chain lube and you can find tests of how their products will extend the life of your chain.
