depends on what you want to spend you could go all out and get a 330 kit or you could just get a pipe re-jet and air filter!!!
It s all on how much money you want to spend

Sounds like the best bang for your buck there, probably around 500$.... and you could probably use an exhaust when you get a chance. I'd look for a carb off a 400ex on ebay, i'm gonna sell mine on there in a few weeks.

a 400EX carb really works on a 300? is it just a boldt on, or is there mods u have to do? would it be hard to jet? i know that they are not that much, compared to an aftermarket one, but would it be anywhere as good as say a 38 mm PE? i really dont know, looking for answrs

I sold my stock carb to a guy with a 300 for $125.00 he said it made his 300 wake up.

For the money, a pipe and filter and jet kit will be your best mod. A pipe really wakes up a 300ex, I had one that had the stock pipe, I bought a DG for it and it really helped out, then I rode with an FMF megamax and it was even more powerful than mine, so I purchased the FMF and sold the DG to another friend.
With my FMF pipe and filter and jetted right, it was probably close to 1/2 more horsepower, thats about 6hp more or so. If you did that and added a cam it would be REAL fast, a cam is only like another hundred bucks or so from WB.
A 400ex carb will work on a 300, but a bigger carb wont give you more low end power, it will help top end, but thats it. Unless you have a pretty modded motor, the stock carb works best for low end.

500$ bucks would probably get ya all three , cam, carb, piston, get a manual and do it yourself. Just take your time and do a good job. Beats paying a mechanic 60 bucks an hour:grr

eeerrrrrrrrrrr.......ummmmmmm........i think you's mite be leavin some stuff out........if you put in a cam ($100-$190, depending on brand) you HAVE to get aftermarket rocker arms, how much is that? like another 100 bux........piston is 100, plus gaskets if needed $$????............carbs run anywhere from 150 to almost 500.......sooooooo i dunno if 500 bux is gonna get ya there
