    building a 250R race quad

i am in the process of turning my 87 250R into a race ready quad in time for the start of next season. i do not want to go all out and have a $30K quad, yet, i just want a good competive quad and has i get i will build my quad better. i was wondering if anyone has any advice or tips to aid me in the process (maybe what to get, what to stay clear of...stuff like that.) I know ever one is going 4 stroke but, i love the R.

    thanks

If i was in your position which i am with my R by the way lol...just to guide you or maybe detter you from some parts ill tell you what we are doing with our 86' R

    P'coated and gusseted stock frame
    Stock p'coated swinger
    RPM +4 Axle
    Houser +2 a-arms
PEP front shocks and pep rear shock
Either a nice pv motor or a crf motor
Beadlocks out back with 20 inch razrs
    .190's out front with razrs
i already have a lonestar carrier bearing but its a good idea
    Houser +1 steering stem
AC nerfs (i already have em)
a good comfortable set of bars (i put renthals on my quads but its personal choice)
Either oem or other aftermarket plastics
    AC bumper

And a nice motor to go with it right now i have

Stock 86' top end bored .20 over with a wiseco high compression piston
    Ported and Polished for MX
    Wiseco hot rod
    Hinson clutch
    pro design cool head
    rebuilt everything
    Wiseco crank
    a good airfilter (i like k and n)
A good pipe (i have a fmf fatty/powercore II silencer)
    FMF reeds and reed cage

A setup like this should be great for a start into racing...later you may want a frame and swinger but its a start...and you may think my motor mods arent much but let me tell you IT RIPS.....

I would have to say deff. go with suspension and also a steering stabalizer helps alot. Motor mods eventually are nice but u don't really need it. Even just with the normal mods these quads rip so i would say not really worry about it. Well thats just my suggestions. later
