    Valve Adj...Feelers

I'm going to try to do my first valve adjustment. I bought a set of feeler gauges at Auto Zone that have .004 threw .024...

    Here is my question:

The individual gauges are marked as follows...

The first gauge is marked .004 - .006
The second gauge is marked .005 - .007

So is the first gauge .004? and the second .005

or is the first gauage .006 and the second .007???

    Peace

It sounds to me like you have a set of step up feeler gauges. The .004 gauge should be .004 at the begining and taper or step up to a .006 and so on.Allways check your clearance with the next size up for example after you have set the clearance to .004 check with a .005 if the .005 fits than repeat the steps until the .005 doesn't fit this will gaurentee proper adjustment. If you have a caliper or micrometer you can check the thickness of the feeler gauges to make sure I'm right about them being step up.Hope this clears things up.

Just to be clear, because I'm as dumb as a stump,

If the tip of the .004 clears, I'm ok, as long as the tip of the .005 does not clear the valve...and the .005 the same way, for the .006.
