    Plunger spring stuck!400ex,help!

I replaced the gasket between the crank case and the cylinder. On the cylinder head under the cam, behind the cam sproket, the plunger spring (new from honda) will not compress under plunger. There isnt any dirt or metal in there. What is this for? How do I fix this? can I nu without it? PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Make sure that the old parts were removed, if so try the plunger by hand without spring. If the plunger is tight you will need to run a drill bit down the hole to clean out burrs. The plunger has to be free to locate the decompressor mechanism.
Clean, oil, and reinstall parts. Only alternative is to go with Hotcam to eliminate decompressor.

THANKS, the plunger went through no problem. The new spring was binding up. I replaced the spring and everything work perfect. But I still wonder how it works. Thanks for the reply !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
