Rincon shifting problem
Sometimes when I shift it into drive or reverse, the transmission either pops back into nuetral or it pops half way out and starts making a grinding noise. This wouldn't be the tranny going out would it? It more or less just happens when it is cold, but rarely does it when the quad is warm.

let the rincon warm up for a while when its cold and run the right oil in it like the manual says!!! dont forget trans and motor oil is the same in these so change often along with filters.. always let it warm up when cold i have put mine in gear in cold temps and it wouldnt even move.. to cold...

The thing is is sometimes when it is even warm, it pops out of reverse and grinds because it isn't in all the way. Which way to I adjust the linkage?

Called up my Honda dealer yesterday, and they said it is the final drive gear has rounded out some. This is caused by shifting when the quad has not come to a complete stop. Looks like I will be quad-less for a couple weeks since the DS is in the shop and now the Rincon too.

my friend is a honda tech and he said he replaces these all the time on efi rincons 06 and up because people dont let them warm up enough and slam them into reverse while its still under high idle from the efi making it rev during warm up... the rincon will give you now problems if you keep the oil changes, let it warm up properly, and dont sink them in the mud all the time, i sold my 03 with about 3000k on it and i never thouch a think and i beat on it pretty good plowed snow with it and all, and now i have a 2007 will quite a few miles on it and no problems........YET

I had an '03 as well and had no problems what so ever. I just bought this '07 in September from a good friend, and I noticed it had these problems a little when he owned it. He has younger kids that I think did this. They have to get on it start it and go right away. I usually let it warm up and then hop on it. I guess it's a hard lesson learned.

does this still occur on the 09s?

I would have to say yes. As long as you let it warm up properly, and don't shift from drive to reverse while still moving, you will be perfectly fine. The main thing they said causes the problem is shifting while the quad is still moving.
