Does anybody know of a gear selector that I could swap out that is 1 inch longer than stock. Boy is having a hard time shifting gears because its too close to the pegs.

I just welded on a piece of tubing the same diameter as the foot shifter about an inch or so longer. Worked great.
I just need to learn how to weld and things would be much easier for me. haha
I see you are a Honda man....... it looks like the TRX 250 shifter will work. I like the large toe bar it has too. We're going to give one a try. There is no need for the small dirtbike spring loaded toe bar. Quads always have a larger toe bar.Quote:

we have a cr85 in a cobra chasis, i beleive the guy that built it told me it was a yfz 450 shifter, works great for my 10 yr old.
Did either of the 250 or YFZ shifter work as we are experiencing the same problem? Did the YFZ being longer create a problem with having to move toe higher to engage the shift?
the shift shaft coming out the motor, and the shifter it self are splined, you can position the shifter up, or down for what your rider wants. Ours is a yfz 450, we just bought a billet one.

If you have a factory Apex 85 shifter with the swinger mounted to the motor then you'll notice the motor sits a little further back then most mods. Look at where the shifter spline is compared to the foot peg and search for a OEM quad that has a similar orientation. The YFZ 450 shift lever (pre 2010) is not long enough but can easily be modified if you have welding capabilities.
I can't remember the distance and I'm not at the house to check but there is pretty much a standard distance from the foot peg to the shift lever toe bar............it was the same on all our toys anyway.
