2001 Foreman Electrical gremlins...

I have a 01 Foreman S... seems to have a problem... the previous owner told me it needed a battery... and i checked out the battery and it looks new... so i decided it may just need a charge... so i charged it... and yes the battery was found to be junk... bad cell.. but i still checked out the machine it self... at the battery terminals i only get about 3 volts... i checked the rectifier... and all the diodes are working right... tho it get's damn hot real fast... i have yet to test the stator properly as i couldn't get my hands on the rectifier long enough to probe the yellow leads.. but what i'm a bit confused about is that i have the 12 volt output on the upper headlight housing... and what's plugged into it works fine... did'nt think a 12 volt air pump could run off 3 volts... or is that just me?

Any help would be nice...
