Just dropped $1600 into having my sons 2001 Warrior engine rebuilt. New crank, rod, piston, timing chain, one way starter, punched .020 over with a valve job. Put about 5 very easy breakin hours on it and changed the oil & filter. The filter is packed with metal shavings. They get picked up with a magnet so its not the case. What the hell gives? Should I show the filter to the rebuild shop?
Sounds to me like a bearing carrier went bad. Time to riper apart and get new bearings and seals and then just throw it back in the quad.

If theres a ****ton of shavings then it's screwed.
If there are only a few it's normal.

I had to do the rebuild because of completely wiped out crank bearing on this same warrior. Literally disintegrated half of the roller bearing on the crank. I'm hoping that the shavings I found are just residuals from that problem. We'll see after the next oil change.Quote:

If you paid someone to rebuild you motor, there should never be residual shavings. It needs to go back to them, the problem will only get worse.Quote:
