Matt Smiley's crew raced over to find out what happened, and they discovered the key switch was in the off position from a rock hitting it from the roost of William Yokley rounding the corner.
Matt turned the key on and was back in the race in at the back of the pack.

By the beginning of the 2nd lap, Bill Ballance had develop a five second lead over William Yokley.
In this photo, you can see one of the reasons why Bill Ballance is so fast. Notice how he avoids the rocks by riding through the less rocky leaves, but stays within the limits of the course. Smart line decisions like this one saves him valuable seconds throughout the race over his competitors.

#6 Bryan Cook was off too a good start in 6th place as he started his climb up the rocky hill, but he made the critical mistake of picking a bad line which left him stuck on a rock.
I jumped onto the track and help him get off the rock, and he made another attempt at climbing over the rocks in front of him with no success, so I pulled him helped once again with no success, so he decided to turn his YFZ around and try a totally different line, which costed him valuable time.
