By the 2nd lap, the heavy rain gave way to on and off showers with the sun poking through the clouds from time to time, but the damage had already been done. The Majority of the original race course was being rerouted out of the woods and into the fields because the off chamber woods trails had riders sliding off the course and through the woods. Also, numerous riders weren't able to climb many of the hills which create huge bottlenecks in several locations with 30+ riders stuck and waiting to get going again.
Bill Ballance managed to pass William Yokley in the 2nd lap and take over the lead by a few seconds as they headed into the pits, but William was able to pass him back by making a short pit stop, which had Bill once again chasing after Yokley as they headed back out onto the MX track.
