Ronnie Mills grabbed the holeshot in College B 16-21
Close call, but thankfully he was fine.
Junior B 22+ was turned loose and it was Tyler Moore leading the way.
With the starting area cleared, everyone scattered to different spots along the track. I wanted to get to one of the man made bridges that cross the creek so off I went mingled in with fans and family, all chatting about the starts and who they thought would do well on todays course.
Crossing the bridge starts the journey on the "other side" of the race area, where hills are steep and mudholes can rut up badly as the race wears on.
Riders follow one another on the single track areas that run along the creek. There are sections that widen and these areas get busy in a hurry as passes are attempted.
The bridges make quick access to the other side, but it can be a gamble as the footing is rough and one could easily find themselves used as traction!
I wanted to get shots from an area that no other photographer was willing to get into, the middle of the creek. Gary Belbeck(Popo) came past just as I settled into the knee deep water.
I could hear the leaders coming, and I could make out a glimpse here and there as they worked off the hillside dropping into the creek bottom. It was Bill Ballance a few quad lengths infront of Borich as they passed my position.
