The bike was bought on EBay for 2500 bucks. It came from Ohio, and some guy’s 12 year old son drag raced it. He was selling it cause he had a bunch of banshees, and wanted his kid to race banshees.
The bike was a disaster, but had some decent parts on it. The motor was a 330 ESR (polished) , drag tranny with a Mikuni Carb, Antifade hub, Douglas wheels. Nice seat cover, so one so forth.
It had some crazy wheelie bar welded to the aftermarket 88 swingarm which created some cracks on the top of it. The axle was a DuraBlue that was cut about 3 inches on each side and the stock rear hubs drilled out and welded on the axle!
The tires were some strange balloon paddle type that looked straight out of the seventies.
The rear shock was toast!! I think the front shocks were off of a banshee.
The frame was cracked to the max! It had some gussets that were booger welded together at one time, some strange motor mounts on the lower chassis. It had no headstay. It also had some square foot pegs welded on, with some 3/8” solid steel welded from the end of the square foot pegs to the subframe. The carb was connected the air filter by a piece of round rubber tubing and duct tape (this will come into play a little later in my story).
SO… I helped my buddy get the bike to a decent rideable state (new rear shock, new axle, bunch of other parts), but in the mean time, he’s buying crap that he shouldn’t have been worrying about. chrome a-arms, 400Ex billet front hubs, polished gas cap, ect.. I kept telling him I wouldn’t ride the bike without an air boot, but I guess I didn’t make it clear enough….
The bike’s second dune trip to Florence; duct tape ripped, sand went in motor, motor went poof.
Ok, now it gets interesting. The guy is getting back into coke, losing his house, losing his car.
The guy then owes me some money at the time. (about 2,500 bucks for a car we bought from him (that’s another story)) So instead of paying his buddy, his house payment, or truck payment, he decides to completely tear the bike down. He took the frame to a fabricator. New gussets, custom headstay, new tubes in the lower chassis, the works.
He spent over a grand on the frame!!
He couldn’t afford to get the frame back at first cause he had no clue how much it would be and he had no money. The fabricator must have threatened him a few weeks later, cause he came up with the money some how. THEN, he started powdercoating a bunch of parts, bought a stainless steel bolt kit, you get the idea.
He also took the motor to have it rebuilt. 1200 bucks. He had absolutely no money at this time. (This was about 6 months ago, so I don’t even know if the motor is still there).
Then he lost his house, got his truck repoed, ect.
I then make a deal with him that if he gets me the bike I will wipe out our debt. I would put the bike together for him, let him ride it, and even let him buy it back when he gets to that point. But, he didn’t get me the motor…He was missing parts that I had to track down, and when I asked him to get some parts, he said “It’s your bike”. He was right, #$%@ him. It is my bike.
So I took it upon myself to get this pile of fourwheeler parts together, sell a few parts and get a motor, and a few missing parts from the bike. I’m not sure if I made out on the deal or not, I had to do a lot of work, lot of searching, ect, Either way, I’m psyched. I’ve got 3 R’s now, and this actually wont be that bad looking of a bike. (except for maybe the out of control looking plastics, haha)
