A friend has a 86 R that he bought new. It looks MINT! He wants to get rid of the stock pipe. With all these new quads, he needs a little more HP now. Thanks!

i say go with either the sparks or the esr trx5 i have herd good things about both
You can pick up a LRD adjustable pipe on ebay somewhat cheap. I got one for $125 that had a dent near the jug. Took a torch heated it up and pulled it out. Works perfect and you can barely see the blue from were I heated it up. Lrd adjustables are real nice, if you ever get engine work done and wont more top end or bottom all you have to do is adjust it:devil:
He has talked amout a FMF fatty. What about those?
I had a fatty gold series, for the money there a great pipe. For the trails and wide open there a good pipe. If you can't fork the money for a high end pipe deffinitly get a fatty:devil:
I have an FMF fatty pipe and silencer in excellent shape like new with a couple tiny dings. Does not affect performance and can't even see them unless pipe is off and you're looking for them. Pipe creates great powerband and is def. improvement over stock. I have pics if interested. Tom250R454Ltd@hotmail.com Thanks Tom
I love my ESR trx5, I think he would be very happy with it. I race xc and the power is great in the woods.

Honestly, after looking at dyno results, the FMF fatty is actually a pretty good pipe for the stock cylinder. It's cheap, and decent gains all around. If you are looking for "basic" power and reliability, the Fatty is a good pipe.
If you are looking to specialize your motor for a particular riding style, with a port job and everything, then you're better off getting a specialized pipe to match your motor.
I have ESR trx5 too...love it.
