how to check db level?

What is the best/cheapest way to accurately read the db level of my quad. do any companies sell a device that is reasonably priced?

you can get a db meter at radio shack for around $50-$75 i think, I have two of them, they only meter up to 125db's tho, so if its louder you could only take a measurment from farther away

i heard something about holding the device 20 inches from the exhuast, is this true? Also should i measure it at idle or at a certain rpm?

I have no clue how they measure atv's exaust..

I just use the db meter for car audio
