How do I know if I need a valve adjustment? Is there any way to tell, short of taking it apart and testing with feelers?

It seems that there is slightly more valve train noise, now that I put my HFM pipe on. There is no clicking, pinging or ticking...just seems a little louder.

Peace

a friend of mine took a flathead screw driver & pressed it onto the header....he then told me to grab the metal part in between & you could feel a pretty strong vibration...we then did the same with his 400ex who had his valves recently adjusted a& his was much less....after I got my valved adjusted after this my engine is silent with ticking & **** like it should be

If you need to ask, then yeah you need to check them. They are easy to adjust, much less check.

When you tighten your valves is it possible ot lose some power ? I heard like if you get your valves adjusted on a car that you can actually feel a loss in power, is it the same with a quad ?

If you lose power on any engine from adjusting valves, then you adjusted them too tight.

That's what i wanted to know! I didn't think you would, but hey it never hurts to ask! How often should the valves be adjusted ?
