Well I noticed today that my frame is cracked in half right behind the top left motor mount. Has this ever happened to anyone else, and if so how did you weld it back up?? Thanks for any help -Nick-

I noticed that it was cracked a while back, but not in half....just to lazy to get it fixed. Now I really need to get it fixed before something even worse happens!!

My upper mount is cracked on both sides. I'll get it welded up before powdercoating.

My buddies frame cracked there. He just welded it and hasnt had any problems with it since (about a year ago). If you want you could overlap it with a thin piece of metal. Or sleeve it.

A friend of mine is a really good welder and was going to weld it up for me. He said that an Arc welder would do it, but I was told by someone else to use a Tig or it would put a hole in the frame:confused: Would the Arc be fine???

i dont see why u couldnt use an arc welder for it. although id prob use a mig seeing that itd be alot easier.

Get a round piece of metal a little wider then the frame slide it over and weld the outside on both ends. After you welds the crack and smooth it out.

tig= aluminum
mig= steel, not to thick
arc=much stronger arc, a bit easier to burn with, but if you have a good welder and the proper settings you should be all set

Even using a MIG welder (wire feed) If you dont do it right, and dont have the right settings your will put a hole or holes, in your frame! If he is good though he shouldn't have a problem with it! I just started MIG Welding and am already learning how not to burn holes in stuff! :devil: Hope you get it fixed man! Sucks have a quad just to look :(

ac 400- where are you getting those equations from? cause i can tell you right now that that is completly wrong, well some what. Tig you can weld on anything, from aluminum to chromoly to stainless, same with mig. Arc on the other hand is generally only used for mild steel but is also sometimes used on stainless, if arc is used on stainless it is generally underwater welding.

You should probably put a weld over the top of that motor mount. Where there are 2 seperate pieces that are "sandwitched" together to make the top motor mount I have seen many frames crack from the top motor mount hole at a 45 degree angle towards the rear of the mount if that weld was not added. My .02. ;)

ahhh maybe next time it cracks I will weld it up like that....as of right now I don't have a welder, and the guy that did it had to borrow the one that he used. Gonna go and look at one on sale this weekend though, so maybe I will get her welded up...

I had an older dirtbike that the end tube of the frame snapped off (bad Wheelie) and we put a tube inside the frame welded it and slid the end peice on and welded that on and it was great!!
