I use a hammer and a nailpunch and a vice and a grinder.. I grind the pinged ends off then punch the pin through its not that hard.. 2 blocks of wood and a file would work and like a nail and hammer.... hope this helps

All you need is a grinder. Grind the heads of the pins off, then beat them through. It doesnt take very long at all. Just make sure you dont take too many.

You must not have really wanted to go riding! . Even one of those cheezy little bench grinders will do the trick... if you don't have one of those, break out the file. Grind off both rivet heads on one side and it will come apart with a little prying.

You really don't want to start counting links... just turn the adjustment all the way in and lay it up there. Get the slack out of it and pick the right length. You'll be suprised how much slack one link will make and take. You won't mess up. Just don't make it too tight. You need a 1-5/8" slack. Just do it. Good Luck!
