If the drags you are running are flat and you are only running drags that day, this is what we do at our local drags, and it allows you to even beat quads that you know are faster. Just remove your front shocks and cut two 13.5 " peices of 3/4" square stock, we use aluminum. and replace your shocks with them after you drill holes in each end approx, 3/4 of and inch from each end of the tubing.

This will alow you to start off in second gear and you can hold you quad pinned to the rev limiter, and even with the best traction you will not raise the front end at all, it will just take off like a rocket. That is what works for us. Now are local drags are only 100 yards and they are graded smoothe.

Get a aluminum or titanium axle. Keep it as narrow as possible. Take off all unneccasary parts.

why narrow? what should i do to the motor?

It should hook up betterbeing narrow beacuse your weight is over the wheels more and your axle is narrower making it weigh less. It may not make a big diffrence but a lot of little stuff like that adds up.

I dont understand the theory behind a narrower rear axle means more weight on the rear tires. As long as both hubs are an equal distance from the swingarm, the weight will be the same no matter what. The only way to change the weight on them is to have one closer to the swingarm than the other...the weight is going to transfer through the axle, no matter how long it is.

It really isnt necesary drag racing beacuse its normally on ground were you gonna hook up better. But if your axle is adjustable and its muddy out try riding in it fully extended and then try it with it narrowed and see what way hooks up better.

Another advange is a narrower axle is lighter than a wider axle of the same material. And the more weight you can take off the rotating parts lets the engine work easier.

what are the specs on the 493 and how reliable is it?

The reason for the narrow axle is so your left and right tires have less leverage fighting each other for traction on varying terrain. I have just flipped my wheels inward(yes, half arse but only and experiment) and it seemed to help. That way on take of you dont dart off to one side or the other.
