I am currently doing alot of things to my engine at once and am trying to figure out what is the best way to break it in. The valves floated and snapped off and became one with the piston! Anyway, I am now going all out on the rebuild. New parts are, FCR 39mm carb, +1mm valves, p&p head, Hotcam stg2 cam, x4 full exhaust, carrillo rod, 440 wiseco high compression kit.
So here's the question, what is the best way to break in this setup?

everyone has their own technique. so, you will hear a few different answers. i am one who believes in running it a little bit on break in. i start it up and don't let it idle. i take off for a few minutes without going really fast until its warm. i then bring up the rpms quite a bit. i haven't had any problems doing this and i believe the rings will seal best this way. also, don't use synthetic oil on break in. i did my first oil change after 20 minutes of riding. you may have a few more metal shavings after a rebuild. i don't run the balls off of it at top speed until i run some gas through it. however, i do bring it up to 6 and 7000 rpms breaking it in. good luck

anyone have that website for the motoman guy. I lost it again. I just broke mine in yesterday. I just rode it kind of easy with a couple of cool downs. Going to change the oil after my first ride.

Yeah, i've seen the postings on how to break in a new cam. I was wondering if there was something else i should be concerned with as far as the other components in cunjunction with the cam.

hey, y2k400ex.
In that article it tells how to break in a new engine, but on a rebuild where I have also changed the cam how does it work?
The cam recommendation is to not let it idle and run it for about 20min at over 3000rpm, then let it cool and check the valves then run it again and change the oil.
If you use that method with the method in that article how would you do it? start it up and hold it at 3000rpm for untill it warms up completely, then run it hard?

I do my break-ins like this. It's been over 6 mos with my 416 and haven't had any problems.
