View Full Version : 2004 GNCC Round #4 Steele Creek AM Race

The Steele Creek round of the GNCC series was spectacular. The weather was tailor made for racing and racers turned out in record numbers. Over 300 riders registered for the morning class!

Racer Productions continued with sound level checks. The sound level test was again met with problems but seemed to go smoother at this event.

Pappy

Racers Productions started enforcing the "kill switch" rule. This caught many by surprise and last minute solutions had to be found to be legal for the race. Racer Productions announced that all kill switches must function at tech by the next GNCC race and they will be inspected for proper function at tech.

Also, they were going to check to make sure they were connected to the riders on the line before the race!

The campground at Steel Creek is one of my favorites. There is ample parking and the facility offers alot of conviences not found at other rounds in the series. The scenary alone is worth the trip down to that area of North Carolina.

Here is over 300 riders preparing to do battle on what would become a very ruff and tuff course spanning 10 1/2 miles.

First out at this event was the women's class. Stephanie Parton gives a big thumbs up and anxiously awaits the start.

Angel Atwell was in third heading into Round 4

Pappy

#454 Stefanie Verkade has finally starting attending some GNCC Nationals after racing for years in District 6 against the Guys in B Class and this year she moved up to A Class. She is a fast rider, so I expect her to do well. She is heading in the right directions after finishing 6th in Georgia.

#275 Erika Jones also has been doing extremely also with her best finish in Florida with a 4th

Pappy
03-21-2004, 04:23 PM
Stephanie Parton grabbed the holeshot! At first it would look as if Traci Cecco would be rubbing nerfs in the first turn, however Stephanie stayed on the throttle and was first thru the turn!

Pappy
03-21-2004, 04:27 PM
The bulk of the class was wheel to wheel heading for the first turn

Pappy
03-21-2004, 04:29 PM
Traci Cecco dives to the inside line looking to check out on the rest of the class and begin reeling in Stephanie

Pappy
03-21-2004, 04:32 PM
Heading for the second turn the field remained close and the action was incredible.

Pappy
03-21-2004, 04:54 PM
Angel Atwell picked up a 4th place class finish, but was running 3rd until the last lap where she flipped her quad trying to get up the hill at the bottleneck :( The bottleneck added over 5 minutes to her last lap.

Pappy
03-21-2004, 04:55 PM

Pappy
03-21-2004, 05:02 PM
Johnny Gallagher Senior pulled the Holeshot on his 250R, and he was the only one on a 2 stroke!

Pappy
03-21-2004, 05:03 PM
Johnny Gallagher was having an Incredible race and was running in the top three overall until he suffered electrical problems on the last lap which probably was caused by his last minute kill cord wiring at the race. He dropped back to 4th and Ken Vickerd took the Win!

Pappy
03-21-2004, 05:09 PM
William Guinter pilots his V-Force into the first turn. William was able to finish 8th in Super Senior

4 stroke stock is a very competitive class. With the addition of the YFZ and TRX 450's the older generation quads have thier hands full keeping them in check

Harlen pushes his Z400 into the mix and prepares for 2 hours of torture!

Pappy
03-21-2004, 05:23 PM
Harlen Pulling out a 4th place class finish and a 6th Overall, which earned him some wood on his Z400!

Edit by Harlen:

I would like to thank ELKA (Martin, Yann, & Ethan) for hand delivering some new front springs to the track to install on my Z to adjust the ride height. The GT Thunder & Quadshop guys installed the new springs for me, and Derisi Racing (Santo Derisi) assisted me Friday Night and Saturday with adjusting the compression and rebound on my stock rear shock to work with the Elka fronts. It made a world of difference in the way the Z handled, and I finally felt comfortable racing the stock Z400.

Also, my ITP tires worked great at getting the traction that I needed when I fighting through the bottlenecks up the hills.

I am extremely excited about the upcoming Big Buck race! :)

Mark Rhodes Finished 3rd Overall, but didn't even realize his accomplishment and never even went to the Podium :(

Mark wasn't even going to run the stock class this year until I spoke to him about running the class. He original was going to run a class in the Afternoon. Mark Rhodes is a great racer on a tight budget and his only sponsor is himself. Atleast now he earned some ITP Bucks by filling his form out at the beginning of the year, and he should have $500 from Honda for Parts!

Awesome Job Mark!!! It is great to see some one else from my neighborhood have a top overall 10 finish

JASON TOOK A 2ND
Jerry took a 2nd in open B
I took a 4th in Class 25-32

In NC jason was rear ended pushed into a tree and bent his tie rods and had to pit and barely made the required laps so he would not DNF
Jerry battled a ton of bottlenecks like everyone else and got 18th in open B

I was in 8th after 1st lap had to dodge some people that were putting a dude on strecher and hit a tree and bent my tie rod and kept going on the 3rd lap finally sucked me into a tree and bent it for good. Leaving me in 42place

WOW! Looks like Rico met Bobby(yfzrider) at the race. And it sounds like I need to hand out some *** whoopins at Rausch. Been wondering what class to run. Guess you guys have made up my mind for me.:D Seems like that's the exriders class there in novice 25-33.

Actually I wish I could have gone but I got alot of stuff going on in my life now that has pushed racing to the back burner. The biggest reason being spending time with my son. He's the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. He and my wife are my world. Plus we are getting things inorder to start building our log cabin in the woods.

I really appreciate the backup POPO. You need back up you just call. I'll come a runnin with guns a blazing.

JCV the karate was actually because I was a bad kid that needed some sort of discipline. Definately got it too. Sucked getting my butt kik'd by the upper beltmen. But now I hand out the whoopins.:grr: And it looks like you need one. Actually you were right, I spent the entire weekend playing and spending time with Mason. Plus I am WAY out of shape. But I started running this morning in 0 degree weather. But no pain, no gain.

Congrats to all that did well. It's nice to see the guys and gals at exriders kik'n some butt. Hope to be out there once or twice this season and back in action next year or the following year.

Later,
Ray
