I was thinking about putting a raptor rear on my 300ex. I race mx and i weigh about 150. I heard they perform very well and are alot better (my old one is getting to be toast). What do you guys think? Also im going to cut a set of 400 a-arms and add spacers in the main tubes. Im going to do this so i can drop my 400ex shocks back down to my original 300ex shock mounts.. What do you think about that?

Well that is all, Thanks guys

The Raptor shock works well but the 400ex front end is a BAD IDEA! I speak from experience. Save up for the 300ex aftermarket arms if you can. Try a search there are hundreds of posts on this subject.

I agree completely with 300exOH. The raptor shock works great and is no big deal to install. The 400ex front end on a 300 is a bad thing. My friend had it on his and it was so much harder to ride. Save up a bit and give burgard a call, or jd performance. You will be much better off if you do.

I had a 300ex and Didn't have the $ for a front so I did the 400 front w/o re locating mounts and it was horrible, the frame on the 300 is smaller so w/ the 400 fron the quad will be stressing and as high as it can go in the front. If you want to do it re- locate the upper shock mounts, or what I did, save up for a nice front end set up.

Thanks guys, Listen i already have a 400 front end.... Trust me i fab alot of things and i know alot. Im going to make it work just like an aftermarket 300 front end because the a-arms are exactly the same... Listen guys im no newbie at this i know i have raced with my 400 front end for a while and there is alot of bump steer. I can fix this tho dont you worry im going to extend the a-arms and use the stock mounts it will work sort of like a longtravel system. WHich year raptor shock do i need? Thanks guys

I had bought a pair of upper mounts from countyparkracing. Well i race mx and i ride my quad kinda like its a fully modded racing chasis quad. I bent the front shock mount like butter.... He said he was changing his design im not sure but im just gonne extend the a-arms and use the stock shock mount because that way the shocks wont be so straight up and down..... oh well i did break the frame in 3 places, bend 2 stock 300ex axles and have broken 2 sets of a-arms already... I guess i need a bigger bike :D

You need the 01 Raptor shock with the remote rezzie.

The 400ex a arms are NOT the same as 300ex arms.

Try a search on this subject and you'll find that the shock mount bracket does not correct the problem with the 400 front end.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.:(

alright what if i bought a set of ugly +2 a-arms for a 400ex and used them would that work????

You basically have two options that work well:

1. aftermarket 300ex a arms with aftermarket shocks
or
2.aftermarket 300ex a arms with a shockmount bracket and custom 400ex length aftermarket shocks valved to work with this setup.

The 400ex front end doesn't work well because it puts the ball joints at a bad angle which can cause them to break. It also is nervous at high speed and has a lot of bumpsteer.

Your best bet is to save yourself the time and money and do it right the first time. I really wish I would've listened to the advise of others the first time. Hope this helps. Good luck

are there any nice +3 300ex a-arms for a reasonable price?

Burgard. Try Jeff@QuadShop or C&D Racing. They are both running a special for $395. The a-arms found on ebay are about the same price but the quality is unknown and shipping is extra.
