Cam Question

I was curious if anyone had installed a cam by itself. What I mean is without a high compression piston or overbore? Is installing a cam without a new piston recommended or is a new piston just another way to get more power out of the cam? I would like to purchase a cam but dont have the cash for a piston at the moment. If anyone has done this mod please post the results.

I put an XR cam in my EX with the stock piston. I didn't notice any loss of low end, but a big gain in mid and top.
