My last race of the series I got rear ended:mad: and now I have nice dent on my Grab Bar.... Rather than replace my Subb frame, I was told I could chop it off, and weld a 250r grab bar???? Anyone done this before??? Anyone else have some ideas????? I REALLY didint want to replce the whole darn thing
:( But I cant get it PC until I fix it..Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

i think sometimes people will cut off the old grab bar then weld on some 250r grab bar mounts which you can then run the 250r grab bars and take them off if needed too, instead of having them welded on. im pretty sure this is possible and would be better than having another grab bar welded on again.

good luck

Let me know what you do and how it turns out. I did some damage to my grab bar while doing a wheelie on the road in 4th gear. It doesn't look too good. I would like to replace it if possible.

i bent mine 45 degrees up on a 5th gear wheelie with no rear brakes....it sucked...heres a pic. http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid102/p2cbd860b331530a0cfbf50e0595c2aea/f9c9d0a8.jpg

Hey Tina, here's a pic of mine. I used some 1/4" X 1" flat stock. I cut it to match the angle of the lower subframe supports and the ends set flush against the tail light brackets. The grab bar I used is actually one for a DS650 because that's all I had to use as a template. However, I did end up cutting about 4" off the grab bar mounting plates and shaped the ends to match the contour of the subframe.
Let me know if you have any questions about it.

Some people cut off the stock one and tap the subframe for a 250r one.

Go to prm-atv.com

They've got grab bars that clamp on around the stock subframe, and will hide the dent in your stock grab bar. They also help to beef up your subframe. Their old design had you cut off the grab bar and weld on some tabs that they sold with their 250R style grab bars....give them a call, they will fix you up for a reasonable price.

http://prm-atv.com/MN.asp?pg=products&specific=282&from=47&mfr=2 Try that. I think its a pretty good look for the 400ex. I'm not too sure about those U bolts though.

It would be seen. I would do whatever Bad Habit did. I think that looks sweet. The only bad thing is that you would have to cut your subframe.

take a cut off wheel and cut the grab bar off i originally cut mine off cause I welded some tabs on so i could bolt up 250r grab bars but then came accross this one

I just got a stock 250R grab bar, they are cheep. I drilled new holes in it so the left side would bolt up to where the stock tool box is and so it stuck out about the same as the stock EX grab bar. I cut off the R grab bar to shorten it and used the pieces to make mounts on the right side of the subframe. It looks clean.

I had my subframe gusseted and 88-89 250r mounts put on! I think that's the best way to go.
