I did a search and came up with only 2 threads bout it so is it worth it? does it really lower temp that much? My internals are stock so far but i am building a higher comp (std. bore) motor and do ride at the dunes when the sand temp is BLAZIN' hott. Is it worth it for the extra cooling, is there any power difference? How much more oil do you need?

Let me know please so I can go ahead n decide if it's worth it for this summer. Thanks a bunch.

I have an additional oil cooler on my 440ex. I race motocross and it has definetly kept my motor alot cooler. I payed something like $140 for mine and I would definetly recommend it, you wont really notice any performance gains but the 440ex is know for cooling probs and it has really made a difference on my 440. If you have alittle mechanical ability you should be able to pull the job off...its not that hard.

Thats pretty cool. I could have used that last July on our dune trip to Waynoka. The sand was 120 degrees and shyt was running real hot! We would ride for about 5 min then stop and let the motor cool the best it could. It was absolute hell that weekend.

WHERE CAN YOU GET AN OIL COOLER FOR 140.00?

i think you can get mickey's set up for less than that, but i am not positive on the price. i hear you can cool the oil by up to 50 degrees. in those hot conditions, make sure your running high enough octane fuel and your jetting isn't lean.

AtcoMx5, do you have any pics of your setup? Cuz i'm doing lots of hot-weather riding this summer and it would be TOTALLY useful! Thanks for the input guys..Also, where can I get one? do you have to splice lines for oil?

I am in the process of building my 440 and I would like to know where to get one also. Don't want to get caught out in the dez and overheat.

Call Mickey Dunlaps For Stroke Teck @ 814-842-6159. This kit takes the oil on the way to your cam rerouts it through a cooler and back into your "valve cover". Mickey says he runs stock rockers in 500cc race motors with this setup. I think it's only $110. Great investment.

There is a company that makes an oversized cooler which claims to be 3xs the stock size. Definatly the cleanest looking way to go, but a bit expensive. http://www.deserttoyzatvracing.com/pages/786129/index.htm

It's important to know the difference between what nakomis0 has and the desert toyz cooler. The cooler setup in the above picture is less expensive and I would say more effective (I have one). The drawbacks are that you have to do some disassembly and machine work. I think the benefits of the FST style cooler far outweigh the drawbacks. Do a search for "top end cooler". You will have to use an astrisk with the three letter words so the search engine will recognize them.
