I'm looking to get a 98' or newer 2wd s10 and was wondering what problems people have had with these trucks. I'm also looking to put on some nice 16's or 17's possibly from a camaro or Trans Am and was wondering if anyone knew for sure if they'd fit since they have the same 5 x 4.75" lug pattern, just not sure about the clearance issue. Any info is always helpful.:D

ive never heard of any probs with the s10's. my friend's neighbor has a '02 (i think) s10 and they beat that thing and it still runs and looks great.

I have a '97 with a 4.3L and it has always run great (155,000 miles and still going). The only recall notice I've ever gotten was for the windshield wiper motor (the circuit board cracks causing intermittent failure). Make sure you get the 4.3L V-6, the four cylinder is a dog. The wheel clearance might be a problem in the front. Even with the inner fenders removed, there's not much room.

I have a 94' from Florida that is pretty cherry, 4.3 for sure but the wheel size is limited on these 2 wheel drives. So that might be the issue with my wipers also, I wonder if it goes back to 94 cause I have to go in there and wiggle the clip around once and awhile. Oh yeah, put a tranny cooler on it, that really helps when towing.

I've got a 1998 ZR2 with 49000 miles on it and have had a few problems along the way, but over all it's been a pretty good truck.

Problems:

1. U-joint on drive shaft went at about 30000 miles or so.
2. Solonoid to ingage 4 wheel drive on one side at about 35000
3. Bad gas cap.........i guess:rolleyes: making the check engine light come on
4. 3rd door latch snapped off a year or so ago.
5. Front wheel bearing at about 45000 or so. This is a big dollar fix, because you have to replace the front hub assemble........nice design huh?:grr: (Also a common problem so start saving now)
6. Oil lines to the remote oil filter leaking (Another very common problem, so save a little more $$)
7. The floor heat hasn't worked for a few years.........not sure what is up with that.........the "flapper" is stuck or something.
8. Latest problem is one of the brake lights isn't working for some reason..........and yes I checked the bulb smart guy:D

This list makes it look like it's been in the shop alot, but it's about 6 years old. Still looks good and drives like new...........for today anyways. (Knocking on wood now)

I have a 95, not the newest, but its got 228,000 miles on it and is still going strong. I still get 20mpg with it and its the 4.3. Only thing I had to do was replace the clutch and slave master cylinder. Its holding up good, the passanger side cab corner went and now the rust is spreading fast.

True. I have the 2.2L 4cyl. and it's slow. Not even that great on mileage due to the gearing it takes to get the truck rolling. I only get about 22mpg. Other than that I have not had many problems with the S-10 other than the seat brackets that let the seat recline will snap off because they are chitty pot-metal and plastic. They cost about 60 bucks to replace, and I've done it twice. :grr: I also have 16 inch rims on my S-10 (1998 model) and they fit good. my trucks seams to sit about 2 inches lower than other s-10's too, although I never lowered it. (I bought it used)

Only 1 problem, all of the rest were my fault.

Relay went bad, so the fuel pump came on by itself.

You get these little problems with anything though.

As for the rims, they will fit. I use 17x9.5 cobra r's, and they rub quite a bit, but they are 9.5's...

my friend has a 98 s-10 4-cylinder, 2 door, 2wd, no extended cab, regular bed, with a truck box in the back(custom)....he hasnt had any problems(i think about 70k miles) except for someone from school stealing his driveshaft and he had to go spend over $400 to get it replaced:mad: the person even said the week before they were gunna do something to his truck(cuz they are a dumbazz i guess) and they took the driveshaft and all the bolts.....

2000 2.2L 2wd S10 Owner here...56,300 miles no major problems yet other then regular things like brakes.

The seat recliner handle is a common thing that breaks, you have to be easy on them. If they do happen to break, there is a company that sells a "fix" so it will never break again. www.gmseatfix.com A lot cheaper and easier to replace then if you decided to use OEM parts.

Water Pumps are a common thing to go out. And head gaskets on the 4 cyl engine usually go at around 100k miles.

You can fit some big rims on s10's...much bigger then 16s.

Heres my s10, its dropped etc.

i just got rid of my 2000 s-10 2.2L 4 cly stick 2wd . i had about 70k on it and had only minor stuff.

i broke the seat latch thing that everyone has mentioned. i had to replace the u-joints around 60k. watch the front grill, mine started to fade out and turn whiteish. it didnt start doing it till after it was out of warranty. from a distance you couldnt see it, but it looked like *** close up. you have to correctly tighten the gas cap or the engine light will come on. it doesnt have any power until 3k+ RPM. thats probibly why i only got 22 mpg. it was a good truck, the re-sale value on them also really sucks.

Here are a couple shots of my buddies truck...it's hottttttttttt. The pics don't do it justice....

I don't really know the answers to all of your questions, but he is running 20" rims on it now. Regarding camaro rims....(you'll see in the last 2 pics) he has a set of 15" Z28 rims that he runs sometimes and I guess they bolt right up. I believe some of the 16's (or maybe all) z28 rims require wheel spacers.

There are also a couple action shots in the Redline 4 Life video trailer on our website, www.cvboyz.com .

Later.
