when i roll my quad a crackling noise comes out of the rear end, i think its coming from the carrier, but im not 100%, ive never replaced the carrier bearings, could it be them? are they able to be replaced in a z400? thanks

fasterz,

there is one for each side. so depends on how many are messed up.

2001400ex,

i check mine once a season if they aren't making funny noises and stuff. look for uneven wear, missing bearings, bearing housing blemishes, etc...

:D

TY batgeek, once I hear noises I will check...I don't think I'm going to ever buy a used quad again...I have to worry about too many things while owning a used quad...I think if I have the money next winter, my 400 is going to be completely ripped apart, rebuilt from head to toe, and get some plastic surgery...aah I am drooling just thinking about what she'll look like...:p

thats the best part of owning any motorized vehicle. modding and working on it!

and riding it of course :D

i highly recommend checking it once in a while...a little preventive maintenence never hurt anyone

yup, if you think they might need changed change em'. I thought it was kinda a pain on my dads quad but if we would of done it sooner to my quad I wouldn't of had messed up a carrier.

Deffinatley sounds likr the berings. Replace them both and dont ride it untill you do. Since they sound that bab it probably shouldn't have been ridden as long as it has. When i did that to my berrings they had to cut them out with a torch. Lucilly i didn't kill the carrier.:D
