View Full Version : Your Prayers Needed

Last night there was a horrible explosion and fire at my friends house and he is in serious condition with 3rd degree burns on most of his body.

He is a diehard ATV rider and would give you the shirt off his back to a complete stranger. He is probably one of the truely nicest human beings I have ever met. A few of the guys on the board have met "The Brit" at a few of my rides...and I have no doubt that they would echo my sentiments. I am sure he will have a very long road to recovery, and details are pretty sketchy at the moment...but your prayers are needed.

You got 'em comin' at ya from the west coast, bud. Sure sounds nasty, though. Hope he gets through it. Lots of pain with burns, but God heals.

Thanks everyone for their kind words. The next few days we should know more about his situation and if he is going to pull through the next 72 hours. Word is that if he makes it through that he will spend 3-5 years in the hospital :(

The cause of the explosion was something I am sure more than a few of us here have been guilty at one time or another. He was supposedly transferring gas from a motorcycle tank into a gas can when the propane heater in the garage ignighted the fumes causing the explosion and subsequent fire. It was so hot that the lally columns holding up the house are bent like a boomerang.

This is just a horrible, tragic accident that happened to a 39yo man who has been around this stuff all his life. Please be careful and dont think it cannot happen to you.

i do that all the time with my gas tank b/c I have a bad one so I syphen it out of a hose into my better gas tank....I also have my gas heater in my basement that has sometimes been on full blast while I was doing this...I will definately be more careful now

I have a propane heater in the garage. I never ever transfer gas in the garage, fill mowers, etc, even in the summer. Its just too dangerous, plus it always spills and stinks the place up. I dont care if its 5 below, I go outside, plus I have taught my son the same thing.
It doesnt sound too good for your friend. We have no control over things like this and we have to hand it over to a higher power than us, what ever the outcome. My thoughts and prayers are with him.

Ive been thinking about the guy since I read the post last night, I dont know him but still have a sick to my stomach feel, things like this need to wake others up and make them realize what can happen and not think it cant happen to them, I just wish there was something I could do but I know I cant, Im sure we all feel that way, Im not religious... but pray to God he makes it:(

God..Please let this guy pull thru...amen

UPDATE: He is in stable condition as of this moment. They grafted any skin he had left on his body to his hands and feet. The doctor says that the graft surgery went well, although the pulse in his hands and feet have been up and down. He is still in danger of losing both his and feet, but the next two weeks will tell to see what happens.

Tonight we established a family fund to help himself, his wife and his two children. My thoughts are to have a fundraiser at at least one of the NEATV-MX races in raffling off a brand new 450r with all of the benefits going to the family. I really have no idea if this would be approved by Howard, etc...but it is really worth a shot as they are in dire need of help right now.

If anyone has any ideas or any way they could help out this family and great man it is greatfully appreciated.

Thank you fellow EXRIDERS,
Wes Oliver
