Is there any place online that I can access excerpts from the Honda service manual for some of the common maintenance procedures like valve adjustment, cam chain adjustments etc.??
Hate to shell out $50 apiece for detailed service manuals, when all I feel able to do are the routine adjustments. I know......
I admit it, I am mechanically challenged! Thanks

If you go into ex tech in this site theirs an online guide for the 400ex valve adjustment i'm not sure on the 300, but i'm sure it's mostly the same!!

Well, you can see the EX Tech section on this site for the valve adjustment on a 400. I'm sure the basic procedure for the 300 would be the same, but I don't know where the valves should be set on one. You can also get aftermarket manuals for about half the price of the factory book, though I'd still prefer the factory book. Better to have too much info than not enough. Besides, after what you've already spent on your bikes, I'd consider the factory books to be cheap insurance.

Thanks Stevo and Fatboy. I didn't know about the "EX Tech" section. There are some excellent posts there for some of the common 400EX routine maintenance.

Maybe one of the 300EX owners with the expertise will post similar info for the 300EX in that section. Hint hint........

Thanks again this forum is the best!!

Flipflop,
If you go to the EX tech tips the procedure for valve adjustment is listed there. except for the removal of your plastic the procedure is the same for 300 and 400 EX. In the owner's manual for the 300 EX on page 106 or 140 (2001 300 EX) it list the valve clearance @0.004 in. The "T" marks are the same just feel the intake and exhaust valves, they should be loose, then adjust as listed. When I adjusted mine it took about 45 min-1 hour and most of that was to get the plastic off. I set my intake at 0.004 and exhaust at 0.005. It is not as hard as it sounds, just take your time.
