440 gives more power for sure, but which one is more reliable and requires less maintence?

Most 440 kits are not true to thier advertised compression ratio, (cylinder pressure)you get into pulling studs if not done right as with any motor , don't get me wrong there is some strong 440's out there, but BANG for the BUCK 416 is a good runner, I've beat piped Banshee, Raptor, Z400, whatever you build my advice is do your homework on whatever displacement you do ..checkout piston weights in grams , etc.:D

i was origanally leaing to the 416, but the 440 will give more power, obviousally, but i dont have money for the 440 and i ahve the 416 cash now.

If you get into a hi-compression 440 you need to look into getting heavy duty head studs and cam chain and maybe even a better rod.But but the 416 you can get by with your stock head studs and cam chain. If I were you and on a budget deff a 416 with a ross or JE and a web cam 450/451

Personally, I would go 416. With the 440, the reliability kinda goes out the window. It is a strong running no doubt, but where do you go from there?

Many 416's at the local track can smoke dam near anything. When I get the dough, I am definitely going 416. As long as you get the right internal components (check with C&D) you will do just fine.:)

Go with C&D, they helped me alot, I like it when boy's talk trash about 400Ex's first time when I ride with them, after looking at the back end of Lil' Red they have new respect for the 400's:D

Most 440s, like the IMS ones are over-rated.
416 is cheaper and is actually a bit quicker.
The only way I'd run a 440 is if it was built by an engine builder and not just some kit you order online.

look, dont get a 440 yet, u can never go back, but if u get a 416, u can go back if u dont like it[but i dont know y u would] and if u get that 440, ull have to get new cam and all that $|-|IT, just get a 416, and use it a few times, if u like that, and STILL need more power, then go on ahead and get the 440. but i wouldnt suggest getting a 440 just yet

I have both. The 440 is a better engine.

I can only speak of my 416, I am real happy with it, talked to a few boys at a GNCC race a few weekends ago that have had both , they told me they were happier with it when it was 416,told me 440 give them more headaches compared to the 416 which was very reliable,I don't know but was told this:rolleyes:
