is there any way i could put a kick starter on a 400ex? or is ther a kit or anything? thanks

OK, from what I've searched and such its not worth the change over. You'd need to get new xr400 internals or just plain old get a XR400 bottom end, even then you'd have to custom make a extender for the kick starter. In the end I think it was like 300-400$ without the custom made stuff also I forgot I believe XR400s kick forward, you'd have to modify that some how.-darren
