That's odd, I removed my choke and installed the 42 pilot and my bike runs abosolutely perfect inclucing idol. May be a dumb question but did you plug the choke hole on the side of the carb?

I ride trails. It is strange it will idle for a moment and die, I don't get it. If I put the idle screw all the way in it is fine. Is that a fuel or air screw?

I had to put the air screw back to two turns out, I removed the dynojet kit (it was out 3 1/2 turns). I had the choke holes tig welded closed

my bike is tempermental with the stage 2 cam. my friends isn't though with his stage 1. you need to make sure you don't have an air leak where the carb mounts to both rubber boots. mine only does this when the bike is warm. when it is cold it isn't too bad besides cold blooded. i run about 2 turns out with my 42 pilot jet. but, i left my air box lid on and i only run a 406. the little bronze color skrew on the very bottom of the carb is a fuel skrew. the idle skrew may need to be adjusted. it is a bigger silver skrew on the left side of the carb when sitting on the bike. you can actually get to this one with your hand.

"Is that a fuel or air screw?"

in replie to that: if the screw is on the engine side of the carb it is a fuel screw if it is on the airbox side of carb its an air screw......somw carbs have both an air and a fuel.....im not kean on 400's yet...so i dont know if it has both

I can get it to kind of idle if I install the 42pilot jet 1/2 to closed fuel screw and turn the idle all the way up. that means I am rich right. after close check the 40and 38 pilot jet are damaged. don't buy second hand jets.
