looking to get a new quad will be doing 90 percent trail riding...owned a few quads in the past and own two sleds now so i do have experince......so should i go with the 400 or the 450 i hear they have a real tall first gear??.......i like knowing that with the 450 i have that extra speed for when i just wanna really rip and tear.......but how is it gonna handle its self on the trails and not just MX.....thanks for help in advance

they do have a tall first gear but thats why they make aftermarket sprokets. and they really do help. oh and ya the bike really rips when you tell it to

but on the other hand if you ride more extreme woodsy trails and tight tight courses you might be better off with a 400ex and a GOOD aftermarket suspension and shocks then add more power later if need be

how many teeth would you suggest on the sprocket.....and also will it have a big affect on top end

start with a 13T front from a CRF450 dirt bike and if you still need more then add a 39T rear. i'm not sure on top speed loss i have someone checkin it for me i will let you know. i don't think it will be enough to matter for me i don't really ride to many places where i even touch 5th gear but whatever you don't drop more than two in the front even though it is cheaper. there currently is another post i believe called woods gearing that also has some good info

I think the 13/39 ratio sounds good for me one other lil question will i need to get a diffrent chain due to the taller rear sprocket?? thanks for your time and help

Nope, the stock chain worked for me.
