If you race XC I say leave them alone you won't be sorry. If you just want to cut them to be like everyone else than start slow and take off a little at a time until you get what you want.A good thing to do is use black electric tape and "mask"off the lines you are looking for.Once you cut it you can't put it back on.Mud and water will constantly flying up from the front tires so think about what you are doing.

Dude I say don't do it because a friend of mine and I race sometimes and he has the same setup as me(pipe, same jets, airfilter,ow) and he also has shaved fenders and wheel spacers and I still beat him sometimes. We are the same on the line but I usually beat him top end. As for the pipes he has WB E-Series S-Bend and I have PC T-4.

DO IT DO IT !! Just DO NOT USE A DREMEL!!! It's too hard to control and cut straight! A angle grinder does a GREAT job and it's easier to cut straight. Then just be careful and clean up the edges with it also. I don't mind the mud. If you race XC, don't. If anything else, H3LL YEAH!! If you're scared to get a little mud on ya, sell it and buy a golf cart!

Come on Bill, you should know the 1lbs of plastic that you shave off is going to make it so you can beat anyone in a drag race.

That doesn't even include the aerodynamic increase you get.:o

Call me an *** hole but if you DON"T ride MX and cut your fenders your brain dead...

i have never known why people take and cut plastic some buddys and i used to race mx one weekend and then go race a gncc the next and none of us changed anything from our xc setups granted it was just a local mx track but we all finished top 5 or 10 every time we raced mx so i would say it must be personal preferance on to cut or not to cut

well guys, all the chat has helped me think about it, but i really need some pix to c where to cut, ive seen quads with cut fenders, but if i could get a good close up of one, i could cut it just like it, so a pic would help a lot. thx

what dose that have to do wit shaving fenders

Obviously the extra weight ( 2 pounds) that he has on the front is helping him get traction thus getting him up to speed quicker

Take your time, cutt them and search for "Shaved Front Fender" .. i read a Post and it helped me do mine for the first time.. i was afraid to also.. i used a hacksaw.. cheap and plenty of control
also outlined for about an hour with a pencil
good luck

ok guys, i FINNALY decided to do it, and thanks to every 1 that helped me, u guys are true friends, thanks guys, but 1 more question, when the fenders are off, will the remaining plastic be rough? will i have to use some sand paper? and what tool should i put on my dremel tool, i think im goin to use the grinding disk, tell me if i said anything wrong, or if it sounds like im goining to screw up.

i used like 220 grit then 400 then 600 and followed by Plastic Renew so the front plastics looked nice. The grinding disc i guess is good just make sure you give yourself about 1/4 inch from the actual line incase you grab too much plastic or something and have to keep making it smaller and smaller

use wet/dry sandpaper too (black)

I used a jigsaw and then used 60 grit sand paper and it cleaned up real nice:cool:

I used electrical tape for my outline because it's flexible and you can make it curve without ripping the tape. To cut the fenders I used some heavy duty utility scissors and I used a palm sander to sand them down.
I don't regret cutting my fenders because, you can see in front when you do wheelies, saved about 2 lbs, and it looks bad*****.

Basicly yeah that's it. Like everyone else said, it depends on your riding or racing style. Sorry if I sounded stupid...

hey guys for future reference when dealing with cut or scratched plastic just use a heat gun, but don't get to close or let get to hot.The heat brings out the oils in the plastic and smoothes the rough edges and brings the shine back out. This may sound crazy, but it works great if your careful. I'm a machinist and used to work with injection molds in the automotive field and this was how we would get small blemishes out of the plastics in your cars. This will also shine up dull and faded plastic, so forget all that sanding just use a file and then the heat gun. You can also use a small propane torch if you have a steady hand. For test purpose to prove use a jig saw on a piece of plexiglass and use a regular cig. lighter near the edge. You will slowly see the shine on the edge as you heat. JUST TRY IT if you think I'm crazy screw all of that sanding.
