i've been lookin for dual exhaust ever since the ex first came out and there is none. i wish somebody would make one! it would be so easy to do , you can just hook the left silencer up to where the tool holder goes. if some1 ever made a dual exhaust i would definately buy it. any exhaust builders on the forum? i did see this one system that had to seperate silencers and then a peice of metal welded on to keep em together and they stayed on the normal side. i don't think it would be hard to cut the silencers apart and have somebody bend you a head pipe to go to the other side and make a custom mount.

The DMC is considered a dual exhaust. In the last dirtwheels I saw another one that was dual but I can't remember the name off hand. The DMC w/ Alien header looks pretty sweet.

yeah but we're talkin about exhaust coming out on each side of the quad. like a banshee

A local welder was planning on doing it but the customer sold the 400ex... if you know what your doing and have 2 stock exhausts it wouldent be that bad.

I've always wanted one, but, don't ya figure that if none of the major companies have come out with one, then there might be a reason. Albeit the reason may be that they're lazy, there's gotta be one.

the reason none of the major companies have done it is because there is no performance gain from doing it, it would only add weight to the machine. adding weight does not equal more performance. but i gotta admit, if somebody did make a dual set up, i would buy it. nothing is better looking than dual tips on a machine.

I realized what you were talking about after talking w/ RedRocket. He suggested that maybe it was because the battery would have to be moved also.

i think the battery could be moved into a larger, aftermarket airbox.

Lorduss,
I was reading my new atv action mag. when I came accross an exhaust from Duncan Racing. It shows a dual pip that joins exhaust. I was wondering if it could be turned to where it would go down the left side of the quad. Just wondering if this point you n the right directon.

If anyone actually did this it would be very expensive. I would be willing to pay for it though because now that Silver Lake has enforced the 94 db limit I can't get into the dunes, and having two mufflers should quite it down enough.

The two pipes merge to improve scavenging, the gases moving through one pipe actually pull on the other to increase flow. And you can get more flow through two small holes than one big one.

I can't argue with how cool dual exhaust would be though.

Banshees are different because they actually have 2 cylinders...and they're 2-stroke. The expansion chamber (fat part of the pipe) has the same basic effect.

I was fixing to post that looney tuned exhaust made dual exhaust for the 400ex. I'm glad I was sitting down when I seen the price of that LTE dual exhaust. lol j/k I will agree that dual exhaust looks sick, but i've also heard a single full system gives more power. Probably not noticeable power between the 2.

There are a bunch of dual exausts for sale on ebay for the honda wheelers. Some come with a new bigger air box to move the battery into. $$ though!

i did duals on mine and i love it i wasnt about to spend 650 for the lte system but theres a differance in throttle response and power compared to the e series that was on it when i bought it.i still need the airbox to make it look better but it works great and looks killer

yeah can't win. I did notice that it was from 02. That's ok as long as you pay attention while you read and figure out that there are actually dual exhaust out now. They do look pretty cool and are supposed to increase power alittle over just a single. Steve

Old tread,so what, they still make 400ex's.:D Make your own dual exhaust and save about $500.i would try and get the y pipe from a 06 crf250 and go from there.;)

Unlike most quads the 400ex has duel exhaust ports comming out of the head so a Y-pipe wouldn't be necessary.

Yeah it would not be real hard if you have a pipe bender and pipe. Also making a new air box for the battery would not be too hard. As long as you have a sheet metal bender it would be easy it could all be one piece. It would be awesome to say you make your own exhaust that worked good. Steve
