Do you have a car or is the street bike going to be your only means of transportation? If you don't have a car and the street bike is going to be your only way to get places, I wouldn't get one...what about snow? In the winter when it's 20* out and all you have on is a leather jacket? Plus the fact that they are extremely temping to do 900mph everywhere on...I would like to have one too, but I'd end up killing myself, rather spend all that money on the quad:blah:

Well, that's just my .02

obviously you either

1. Have not inquired into insurance for a 16-18 yr old on a motorcycle (of any type...street, cruiser, standard...)

2. Have a rich mommy and daddy that will pay it for you.

I am 25 years old. I have 2 tickets that are 2 1/2 years old. My insurance is $1100 a year on a CBR600RR.

Before you think about a bike, you need to really do your homework! Also, ^2001 is 100% correct. you don't want a bike to be your only means of transportation! The weather is too erratic and the winter time up there is WAY too long and harsh. (i was stationed in Minot, ND..so i kow) It sucks BIGTIME paying insurance and making payments on a machine that you can only used 4 months out of the year.

If you insist on getting a bike, i would sugest finding something used that you can pay cash for. That way, you can carry just liabiliy insurance.

But, if it were me, i would rather have a toy that i could play with year round (if it was above 20 in Minot, i was riding....its called dressig in layers :D)

hope that helps

No other suggestions from me other then, do NOT be stupid if you end up getting one, they are extremely dangerous. And even if YOU are a good driver, other morons are not. People will cut you off, anything, it's amazing how many dumbasses are on the roads today. Also like Texan said you are going to be paying *** loads of insurance for a 17 year old Male on a street bike...

i put my bikes insurance under my fathers name, and me as someone who can ride it. 24 $ a month.

Be safe out there though, remember its going to be someone elses carelessness that will cause you to wreck (or you being a dumbass) so you not only have to watch what you are doing but what everyone else is doing too.

Good luck

Have you ever ridden a motorcycle on the road? Have you taken a motorcycle class? If you haven't i would suggest that you take the class and learn defensive driving on a motorcycle, it will help with your insurance also if you have taken a certified class. Crotch rockets are overrated anyways. It only takes one time to show off and you'll eat it.

there fun to have but you don't get 12 months of use out of it. it sucks having snow on the ground and a bike instead of a quad

Take it from me dude. Your going to want to keep the quad. In the winter you cant ride the bike, so you have to park it and stare at it every day. I traded my bike for my 400ex. I cracked the neck from coming down to ard off a wheelie. You dont have to worry about that with an atv. But you probaby already have your mind made up so no matter what anyone says, your going to get the bike. But just remember we told you so.

i was goin to sell my 250r for a streetbike before too until i did some thinking...eveyone is right...the insurance is goin to be crazy, you will get urself into some big trouble (at least i know i would), snow, even rain if u dont have a car, and plus why get rid of the quad. personally i wouldnt do it
