Hey,
I am about to purchase either a 400ex or dale, cant' decide which. Anyway, what is a good setup, suspension and motor wise, for ocotillo wells, since that is where I will be riding. I have seen a bunch of 400ex's out there, so I know some of you will know! :D Thanks.

you can ride a stock 400 at the desert, but the first power parts you should get are:
-new airfilter (K&N or a Two stage Uni)
-new Pipe (I like the Pro Circut T-4) you dont need one w/spark arrestor
-rejet the carb

As for suspension, it depends on how you ride.
All I have done is tighten the front & rear springs and I can skip across the whoops pretty fast. But the desert is so unpredictable so you have to just go ride and decide for yourself.

Where in oco. are you going to ride at ?

Can you keep up with all the newer quads out there? I don't know where I will be riding, probably coral reef (I think that is what it is called).

yeah you can keep up with them. On the flats it just matters who has more raw horsepower. Everywhere else its just up to how well you ride.
There are plenty of 400ex's at the desert, so don't worry.
