standard stock(190cca) yuasa replacement part# YB14A-A1 $48 shipped

high performance(220 cca) upgrade from YUASA part# CYTX14AH-BS $58 shipped

the biggest difference between the two is that the upgraded unit is a sealed AGM unit and 30 more cranking amperes

YUASA number YTZ10S $79 shipped (american) i havent a clue how much it would be to ship it into canada

the number i have been using is the YT12A-BS, it requires slight mods to the battery tray plastic and shorter bolts but gets the job done

the ytz10s part that i believe gt thunder was using is closer to factory size but is less cca

Pappy, you're the battery expert. I need a battery that can handle long periods of inactivity. My girlfriend's 400EX only sees use in the summer, and maybe six or seven times during the winter months. She wants something she doesn't have to tend to, disconnect or hook up to a trickle charger.

Got anything for me?

Pappy, the YT12A-BS battery is a real good replacement for the Z and the EX but have you tryed the YTZ12S in a Z. i have looked at all the measurement and the YTZ is only like 5mm taller then the stock YTX9-BS. do you know if it would work in either one?

Pappy
03-11-2004, 06:36 AM
Micheal, we just used a ytx14bs in POPOs Z and his feedback is that its an easy install and cranks his worked engine nicely. and its cheaper then the ytz # and easier to purchase locally.

wilkin, unfortunatley the cycle line of batteries doesnt offer us much in the way of shelf life (dormant use) most of these batteries are 12 amp hr or smaller and since the typical battery loses 1 amp per 24 -36 hours (theroretically) you can see it can only take a few weeks to drain a unit to the point of not starting the quad. my best advice is using either the deltran battery tender ($45 shipped thru me). this unit can be hard wired to the quad and it includes the pig tail for fast connect/disconnect. i laso carry the Yuasa charger and i highly recommend this unit. its $49 shipped and is a touch better IMO. the advantage to the Yuasa unit is that it will actually read the battery current and apply a high amp, low voltage charge at first to help prevent sulfation from forming on the plates. it then switches to a normal rate of charge and then on to a taper and float charge cycle.

i will have to check if the yuasa unit can be hardwired. i know that the deltran can be and the pig tails are included to do this.

i use 600mah welding cable. its 6 gauge and allows for faster transfer of current then standard battery cables. all ends are shring tubed and sealed.

paypal is fastest along with phone order and pay with credit card. money order works, its just slow

if the CBR600 battery puts out 190 cca what would i get with that and the cables you make? Any true benifits of doing both of these at the same time?

Pappy
04-09-2004, 05:06 AM
I use 600mAH welding cable for the cable sets. they sell for $25 shipped or $20 with battery purchase. they are of higher quality cable and construction then the stock cables, and honda charges a nice hefty price on the stock stuff. benefits are faster current application and cheaper price.

the benefit of using a higher cranking battery is that the quad will start faster when hot, cold or when a higher compression piston is used.

Allrighty then. I'm just looking around the web and if you have the cheapest price I may buy one from you.
I know Yuasas are good as the one I need to replace is nearly 5 1/2 years old. I'm just tight with the $ that's all.

Pappy
04-20-2004, 06:47 PM
completely understand...

the way i tell people is like this...

you buy cheap battery brand A for $35

it lasts you a year..the warranty atbest is 6 months so you buy another one for $35. now you have $70 invested and still have a pos.

buy yuasa and odds are if you take the minimum care of the vehicle and battery it will last more then a season. cost $60 or so so your ahead $15...thats a case a beer:p

the biggest reasons bike/quad batteries fail is lack of remaining fully charged. invest in a maintance charger and if the vehicle will remain unused ofr 30 days or more use it! my moms harley battery is 7 years old next month. and she never rides the damn thing. before the maintainer she bought a battery every year.

i am new here

what is the advantage of using these thicker cables?

Pappy
07-10-2004, 07:33 AM
the biggest reason is money. the stock cables thru honda arent cheap.

technically, the better quality of cable allows the current to flow thru the system allowing faster starts. i use 600mah thin strand 100% copper welding cable, 4 gauge. its pretty good stuff:p

if your cables arent broken and you havent upgraded to a high CCA battery there isnt really any need to make a switch to these cables.

Hi, I need a new battery for my YFZ. Wich do you recommend, the YTZ10S or the YT12A-BS? The 10s is heavier but it has more cold cranking amps.
