i used the ford courier tierod ends there beefier than the vw's so i'm told atleast the stud diameter is larger in the long run it cost me bout 26 bucks for each tierod end the machining was done by a buddy and I

a local place it's called budget auto parts i've got an account i use there and i get a discount on parts so you guys will probably be looking at 20 to 25 bucks each

2 questions then im done
1st - do u know how thick the sidewall is in the tubing u used? or in id of the pipe the inner diameter?
2nd- did u use the same sleeve in the top and bottom?

thanks for the help ugly!

there definantly the inners, cause i bought one outer to do setup with and found out that it had left handed threads, which makes it really hard to find nuts for so now i'm stuck with it but the ones you want them to order is the inners,

as for the size of the pipe you'll have to give me a day then i can get you the size probably somtime tomorow i used the same pipe to make the sleeves for both the top and the bottom, but the top sleeves had to be turned down quite a bit more then the bottoms

i used 5/8" id dom tubing i believe with an 1/8" wall, it really doesn't matter on the wall thickness, it could be thicker cause your goin to have to turn it down anyways as long as you have atleast a 5/8" id your good, cause the stud dia of the the tierod is 5/8" dia so your goin to have to ream the tubing out a couple thou so it has a nice slip fit also make up your mind whether you goin to use the vw or the couier tierod ends cause the courier tie rod ends have a larger stud dia

crap...my top balljoints are really messed up...how do you cut them off...do they have to be like super perfect? could you do it with a hacksaw (i know it sounds redneck like) or another kind of saw? maybe a power saw or something? just wondering..let me know

UglyMotha™

it doesn't matter what you use to cut them off, your pretty much goin to need access to a mill though cause you'll have to finish boring the hole all the way thru and you have to true the face of it cause it need to be perpendicular to the tubing

if any of you guys are doing this and using the courier ends then you need to find you some m16x1.5 nuts i had a rough time finding them autopart or hardware didn't carry them around here i ended up getting them from our nut and bolt supplier

what is the part number of the ball joint? Could you use 250R ball joint?.

Did it extend you front end any? Do you jump? Do any mx?

Thanks

I wanted to make some a-arms but They want 26$ per foot for chromo. ( in canada ) plus getting it welded it would cost me like 800$ so I figured I would just try this. I could do like +1 right?

the part number is at home so i'll post it later, have no clue on the 250r ball join but i don't see why not, yes i jump and yes i do mx it's not goin to make your front end any wider only benefits you will see is adjustable camber and replaceable ball joints

could you make the ball joint stick out a little to make it wider?

UglyMotha™
03-11-2004, 02:28 PM
oh ya most definantly but then you couldn't get a nut on the back side of them so i'm goin to go out on a limb here and say more then likely they would then fall out :o

you don't have to go out that far ( no nut ). How much does the end sick out.( how much could you make it stick out and still put the nut on)

Please post the Part# as soon as you have it.

come on pal, i'm not goin to set here and argue with you, is the the setup sitting your garage?...................... ummmmmmmmmmm NO it's in my garage and i'm only goin to say it one more time, IT DOES NOT MAKE YOU FRONT END WIDER i've got my ball joint as far out as possible with enough threads sticking out to thread the nut on it safely and it is no wider than stock, if you want a wider front then go buy yourself some aftermarket a-arms cause your barking up the wrong tree :huh

Sorry, I didn't want to get you mad. I was just tring to find a cheap way to be wider. and I didn't no If you tough about putting washers to make them stick out. you can't really tell in you pics.

So I get it, they don't make it any wider.

Could you please give me the part number.

then I'll stop bugging you.:(

it's all good, your just kinda beating a dead dog here, i just think i should only have to say it once if it made the front any wider than i would have set it up that way, but it's not goin to happen

the moog part# is ES2074R
