Martin Blair

I was watching the news tonight and they said by the end of this month gas prices may rise to 3 dollars in the west and 2 everywhere else, i dont now about you guys but if gas is 3 bucks a gallon thats really going to put a stop to my riding and summer races, hell race gas is almost cheaper.

I know whats up with that? I guess the only reason the can do it is cus they can do it. I might start buying 103 octane if prices continue.

I caught wind this was gong to happen a few weeks ago, its going to effect us all your going to see Food prices go up because of TRansportation costs, airline tickets you name it.. Wait until sprng brealk when people start to travel:eek2: this is gonna suck!! Gonna buy a 55 gal drum of race gas now, cause I bet it will sky rocket next.......

You know this would figure. I am getting ready to move from colorado back to iowa and gas is expected to skyrocket. So now having to pay for gas for a 25' moving truck and 2 trucks is going to suck......

killed300ex
03-05-2004, 04:49 AM
i am paying about 1.62 a gal right now. If prices go above 2.00 my truck will be parked untill prices go back down. I cant afford it at 12 mpg.

I'm glad I might be getting a job which will require me to buy a new Golf TDI... 45mpg is going to be nice when the prices go up that high and still have great power and torque to play with...

YEAH BABY, If i can't afford to put $3.00 a gallon into my truck then I have "BIGGER" problem's I need to worry about. Gas is the least of my concern's. Even @ 10 mpg and 32 miles 1 way to work.... it's not that bad folk's...

Make some change's if you can't afford gas for a vehicle. It may suck to have high gas prices but at least we can travel from one state to the next without be hassled at the state line's...

So why are the prices going up so high, anybody know? I hear all these predictions, but I don't ever hear of the reasons behind them...

jtej
03-05-2004, 10:18 AM
There are supposedly all kinds of reasons that gas prices are going up. A couple tankers wrecked recently, switching over to the summer fuel, new additives for emmisions going into effect, lining someone pockets, and JUST B/C THEY CAN. I don't know what if any of these reasons are true, just what i've heard.

I know that i'm getting a street bike, fill it up with change and get 50+ mpg.

I remember in the early 80's when you could buy big block trucks for almost nothing. Everyone was scrambling to sell their big 98's to buy the Nissans, Toys and Hondas. Today, if you look on the road, you see Hummers and Excursions and all the other SUVs all over the place... most with 4 wheel drive. Why? For the huge hills at the mall? :huh And the hitch has never been used! Of course, I wish I had one too...for hauling quads! :) Anyway, most folks drive those large vehicles for status and aren't worried about the price of gas (YET).... When they realize they can't afford to pay $500 a month for gas and another $500 for a note, I'll be there. I'll be there to buy the vehicle for peanuts and only drive it when we go riding!

Something to do with "supply and demand again:rolleyes: " and them shutting down a few refineries for the time being???? You know, I figured the supply and demand would be alot better now since we have control of alot more with Saddam in our hands.....

Overall I believe the problem of the increase is due to the oil company's lining their wallets again. Sure they can come up with reasons why they need to increase the price per barrel, but you do know they are gonna profit very nicely from it.

I'm shocked by the number of people that just accept this and take it... Your right, this is America... why should we have to pay the same prices that people around the world pay... I've seen SO many people that support this increase say "Europe pays WAY more than us...its about time we pay more" This statement gets me so frustrated with people...they obviously have no clue.

When you just accept things like this and say "Its ok...I can afford it" is when you have started to trade off your American views IMO. Its NO different than taxes... I'm sure all of you would be up in arms if the gov't said they are going to tax you an additional $50 per month just because they need it. Also keep in mind that a HUGE chunk of what we pay at the pump is heavily taxed... not all of the increase is due to oil company's.

awhile back i read that if only like 15% of the driving public would cut back for a 2 week period it would put such a strain on the economy that they would be forced to drop prices. i dont remeber where i read it but it was a pretty cool synopsis on how much our economy is tied to oil

well that shows me that its price vs demand. They are just making money on the stronger demand.

Also, who would be cutting the prices? The oil company's or would the federal gov't relax their heavy taxes?

Yeah it really sucks, I paid a $1.73 for 87 octane today, I think we'[re gonna have to do some work on our little Dodge D-50 to get it back up & running for Ron to drive back & forth to work, as for me I don't do much driving. WE were talking last night & we coudl run race gas for about the same price now  I'm watching the news now & now they wanna raise our car tabs AGAIN!!!! Supposed to go on vacation this summer to South Dakota, hmmmm that one could get a little spendy w/ the motorhome & trailer full of quads :blah: I would say if it keeps goin up we may just stay home!!!

It is $1.69 for 87 where I live.

Just a thought....didn't we kick the Iraqi's ***? Shouldn't gas be like free now? I don't know if those two things are related, but it seems like the price should be a heck of a lot lower.

Tina, don't run out and buy it just yet, There isn't a huge demand for 113 so the price is really pretty stable, even during the highest price times.

I figure when 93 gets to be over $$3.00 I'll but 113 and mix it 50% with 87 and still run better and cheaper than runnin straight pump gas. As for the truck, fug it, it gets the cheapest thing I can get my hands on. Last year I ran farm fuel when the prices got hot :D

I paid $1.71 this morning for 87

Wow thats a pretty good price:eek:

Where we get ours, if you buy 75 gallons in a year, your next 25 are free. & It runs about $4.85, and there are six of us that buy in. We all mix with 50% 92 so 100 gallons goes along way.

Its a government consipiracy.... They raise the price of gas and secretly collect the money to pay off a lot of our national debts. Think of it we all rely on it and we all accept it when it goes up and keep dishing out more money by the millions. Plus it goes to show other countries that we didn't attack iraq for our own wealth when we pay that high of gas prices than them!:P

Believe me, I KNOW.

Anyways this is gonna suck for me. All the money I get pretty much goes towards gas and I go easy on her.

Gas was 1.65 a gallon when I started driving. After Katrina, I remember it jumping to over 3 dollars a gallon and everyone was in panic. Then it went back down to 2 dollars a gallon and everyone was OK. Now if I get gas for under 4 dollars, I feel like I'm doing good. It's rediculous.

Yeah, I dont know all the ins and outs of why... heard something about a shortage in the chemicals they have to put in the fuel to follow EPA BS.... but why it would hit Cali so hard more than others Im not sure of . Guessing due to the per capita of vehicles or something . Feel bad for my racer friends and family that live there . The states already a mess as it is . :/

Probably because California is always the front-runner of additives and EPA crap, so they probably have more requirements and BS than other states. So if the additives are the problem, then it's only natural that it will hit Cali the hardest.

cali actually has their own specific standars for fuel blends that bumps their prices up right off the bat and then something happened this year with the crossover from summer blend to winter blend that brought prices up also.
