22" rear tires I mean. I just bought a set of Kenda Knarly
22x11-9 for my 400 and they look kind of weird since they are big. I trailride and everyone I talked to recommended 22" rears for trailriding for the extra clearance under the rear end. I had some bald stockers on the back until today and they just spun, I got to take it in a little dirt in my neighborhood for a minute today and its amazing what difference tires make. I hit it today and it stood up very easily when before it would spin (no suprise since they were like a drag slick).

Anyway I was just wondering it anybody else did this and did you have to change the stock gearing or did it work out ok?

Thanks,
Joey

I've got a set of 22 inch Holeshot XCT's I use for mud races and my occasional trialriding. I never changed my gearing because they don't stay on long enoughfor me to care. If you fee like your engine is slower and not as responsive you can add a tooth or two to the rear. If you don't notice anything, go have fun!

I got 22 holeshot xcts and I put on 14t front and, 39t rear sprockets. That wil put you at the same speeds as stock.

i would hjave thought just the 14t on the front would make it stock?

when u go up on the back it gears down correct?
isnt stock 15/38? i had been thinking about doing this as well just wanted to get the gearing correct before i do

That what I have been running all along and for what it is worth I have blown by all my buddies on their 20" in the ditches and mud. Top speed on the trails seems to be a relative thing at 30 mph. After getting a few comments on here about them I am pretty sure that the stock tires were 22" I am going into the shed and check that tonight again. I also noticed that the new 04 models say they come with 20". If that is true did they change from 2003? and make the change in the tranny or the sprocket? Anyone know this answer?

if you are talking about the 300ex
they have the same tires(22's) on the 2004's
as they have had forever

Well that is what I thought, but just looking thru last months Dirtwheels they state that the 2004 has 20x10x9"s! That just freaked me out, my old tires are 22's. I guess they misquoted themselves a couple of times. Back to my last question because I am thinking of putting on some 20's, would I be ok with stock gearing.

Jumbo we are talking 300"s:D

I have been running 22in spyder tracks for 4yrs now and love them. 14/39 gearing works great with stock motor. 15/38 with a 440 motor. 16/37 with a 500 motor. :D

I had 22' spider tracks on my bike and hated them, there to heavy, and the wear time on them sucks, ill never run another tire other than a Razr 2 or Holeshot... if you guys go with 22inch rear tires i recommend a 14 tooth front sprocket. just my 02.

I love my spiders. They work great for trail riding in soft terrain and lots of mud. They do wear fast on hard pack terrain and roads, but I get about 2 years out of mine. And yes I do wish they were a little lighter.I have a set of razors and love them for my PA. rides. IMHO

Not as often as I'd like - places to ride are getting harder to find.
Only get about 2 or 3 long trail rides in a month. Do you have any good riding where you're at?

We ride fall, winter, spring - usually boating in the summer.
