Me and my friend break out a 185s ACT every now and then. We always have fun riding that beast around. Whenever we go to Attica I always see a few act's riding around.

yeah we have an atc 200x and an atc 200 (wheelie machine) that we ride around all the time. They are super fun and great for messing around and doing wheeles forever.

I have a 85 250r, nowhere near stock and a pretty stock 200x. I don't currently own a running/together 4 wheeler. I ride my friend's quad every so often, don't miss it. Atc's are way more fun and faster. I can ride any trail that a quad can, any jump, at the same pace if not faster. I have a 86 trx250r thats in boxes, 88 frame, roll swinger. It will go together when I don't have a place to ride my trikes. I want to get a 350x or build another 250r trike for trails. If you get yourself a 250r trike, 0 preload suspension, redone forks, nice tires and extended axle you won't miss a quad either. 250r's handle so sweet.

so which at atc the 250r or the 350x ? ive heard the later R the 85 -86 is one of the best threewheelers ever made besides the 200x and maybe the 350x so i think those 3 are the ones to have, most bang for the buck the 200x prob!

I've ridden a few 350x's , they are awesome. pretty much the 85-86 250r, 350x, 86-87 200x are the bikes to have. I've heard good things about the air-cooled r's. 85-86 250r's have the greatest parts supply and alot of the aftermarket 250r parts fit them too. parts for 86-87 200x's are a bit tough, especailly axles and rust free gas tanks.

Two of my buddies bought ATC's because they wanted to be different and not have quads. They started out on 185's which they each still have and play on some, and one has an 85 250R, and the other has a 350X. They also had like 3 200x's, but one got traded even up for a very nice yamaha srv 540 sled. They can smoke through the trails, and do a great job at the Badlands. Makes me wish my dad still had the 84 200es Big Red that I learned to ride on when I was 4. Grandpa still has an 85 250 Big Red that is fun to play on though.

I love 3 wheelers...thats the first thing i ever rode.....i had a atc 83 250r and a 82 210...they both were awsome, we had some good times with them.......the 250r was my secondary and primary ride up until last year....i blew the top end and installed a new one and then i sold it for some ungodly reason, (to get cash for a truck) ....id say if any one finds one for sale and has extra to buy one......

Hey Brandon, I have 4 or 5 buddies that still ride 1986 ATC 250R's. One guy bought his brand new and still has it. When I mentioned bringing a buddy when I meet up with you to ride next weekend that is what he will be riding. I ride them from time to time and I do not know how in the hell they do it, but they do run GOOD. They do not hit as hard or feel as fast as my 88 250R, but I get outrun everytime and they really start pulling me from 4th gear on. They have climbed practically every hill that I have to.

My first trike was an 83 200s.

I now have an 83 200x... it is a blast to ride in the snow. I have not had it for that long but i want to sell it. if anyone is looking for a 200x that runs and looks good check for my post in the classified section. I will also take a trade for it...

not exactly an atc but me and my friend bought a old tri moto 200 that we are restoring it cost 200 bucks so we split it a 100 each way:D

I have an 83 honda 200 w/ ballon tires and no suspension. Since I bought my 400ex in the fall of 98, I quit riding it, but about 1yr ago I got the urge, put some money in it and got it back on the trails.

After getting it going, I did what anyone would ride it around the yard for hours doing front and side wheelies, then headed for the trail. I took the trail at a pretty good clip, until I forgot that those little 4" diameter trees laying across the trail, make for a much bigger obsatcle on a three wheeler with no suspension, I almost went over the bars and the 3 wheeler didn't stop boucing for another 50ft. Talk about a quick trip down memory lane, anyway by the time I got to the point where I was going to head back, I realized the beating my body had just taken. So I eased back towards the house, thinking about suspension the entire way there. The next day I felt like I had ridden a GNCC race the day before, not a joy ride on the trails. LOL

Still have my '86 ATC250SX I bought brand new off the showroom floor of that year. It has become my wife's bike of choice when we ride as a family. I beat that thing to pieces, including floating it in 4 feet of water in the river, twice. It starts right up and runs better than my '01 250EX.

I am in the process of restoring an 83 ATC110. Its the machine I learned to ride on when I was 4 and now since I am pretty happy with my 250EX, me and my uncle decided it was time to start piecing it back together. It was pretty quick for a 110, it has been bored .40 over and still has great compression. I got the carburetor cleaned out a little bit and have a carburetor rebuild kit, but we are gonna get the carb soaked to be sure. When we first opened it up after not being started in literally a decade, we both almost threw up. The air filter was rotting half off.

I got the pull starter together (had to buy new rope and handle and put it in the pain in the *** starter housing. Anyone ever had a pull starter spring shoot out at ya? Not good and even worse to try and get back in. That pull starter is a 2 man job at least if you dont wanna spend all day on it.

I then checked to see if we had any spark by sticking a screwdriver in the plug boot and being the dumbarse to hold on to it while my uncle turned the motor over. It has spark, lol.

All this didn't take very long and I am excited. I can't wait for the carb to come back because once it does and we bolt it on, it will finally be time to try and start the 10 year sleeping beauty. I can't wait. I wanna get an old 350X though and restore it. The idea of a 6 speed thumper sounds awesome to me.

Glad this thread was brought up, nothing like remembering the old days of ATVing. Back before the CPSC had anything to do with the ATV's. I wish I was a bit older and could have experienced everything of the early 80's first hand. I would have loved to be around during the first ATV boom period.

i'm glad this thread is still going too!!!,,,i've had my 84 200S for almost 2 years, and i've just now got it reliable enough to strike out anywhere with it,,,the first problem wet fouling the plugs, fixed that, then it was the brakes, and about a year later i got them fixed, then a problem withe the chain adjustment, fixed that,,,it's a lot of fun to ride (a little rough though!!!),and a blast to tinker around with,,,i agree with fast250ex, i wanna find a 350X to make a project out of, wannna find one that doesn't run, and is rough, but all the parts there (cheap),,,later

ps, check out www.3wheelerworldforums.com ,,,i'm TravEX on there also,,,i hand out in the quad forum mostly,,,later

I just want something that is wicked fast to take to the local drag races and just impress people. I have my EX for trail riding and doing a little mudding and snit, I need something that is very fast too.

I have always wanted an ATV fast enough to scare the hell out of me. Something that i am scared to death of getting to top speed. Nothing like an 80 mph trike to do that.:D

Get an 85 or later atc250r. If you do any kind of motor work at all get an extended swingarm. I could get one with a 310 jug for 700 bucks right now. But I just don't have the room for it. Ones with a little motor work will embarass the new 450's and hopped up 250r's and banshee's. It's just a matter of getting used to the launch and having the front wheel off of the ground through the first 4 gears no matter what.

I have an 86 tacate 3 in peices ( and I mean peices) out in one of my sheds too. I don't have the time to f##k with it though. If someone local ever need the parts I'd probrably give them to them.

www.sandwizards.com Dl the video's on the home page to see some tricked out trikes. And watch the hopped up 86 250r embarass everything on the flats.

Thanks for the help 86350x, that was along the lines of what i was thinking. Maybe by next summer i might have the R sitting in the garage but for now the money just isn't there.
I am looking at a wrecked '02 Ranger edge right now. I help my dad in the body shop so i have been lookin for a good little truck that has been wrecked that i do all the work on, save some money.

Sometime in the future when i get lined out I am gonna try to get me an R, but for now, i am quite pleased with my EX since i trail ride a lot. Plus, I would rather get me a nice truck right now then get something real fast to haul around later.;)

ive got an 83 200x that for some reason doesnt like the sand but has no problems w/ dirt or cement.

and if you think im kidding, i kid you not. last time i had the trike at pismo it wouldnt run for s**t, as soon as it started up, it would bog down.. so we loaded it up and continued riding the 400 and dirtbike.

on the trip home wel stopped at hollister (the trails) and i said what the hell, so i took it out and started it right up.. sat there for a second and nothing happened, put it in gear and took off and ran perfectly, still dont know what was wrong w/ it but oh well.. guess it just didnt like the beach or something.

only thing wrong with it is a squeaky rear shock and some rust on both sides of the tank where the knees rub

very fun bikes, and like stated before, if yo find one.. dopnt pass it up, you will regret it later

Oh Yeah.

I've got an 85 Tri-Z, I'm working on a custom built XR500 powered threewheeler now (Hence the name). I just got done putting a +4 Durablue YFZ450 axle in the Tri-Z. It did pretty well at the MX we had at Haspin last month but man it corners like its on rails now! I own several other trikes including an 85 200X, and an 84 Tecate among others.

I know you guys have already plugged my website but I gotta do it again :D

On the forums Dean Kirsten is doing a Q&A, he was the publisher of 3Wheeling magazine and did a countless amount of tests and wrote many many articles. The thread has had over 12,000 views which might not be a lot on a forum this size but ours is under 4k members and its alot to us. I update the main site often (about once a week) with new pictures or whatever else I can find.

Its good to see that there is still alot of three-wheeler people out there.
