I'm driving home from work this evening and a commercial comes on the radio for a dealership in Mansfield, Ohio and a local dealership in Uniontown, Ohio. Anyway, the voice on the radio is advertising the LTZ400 as "ATV Action's Sport ATV of 2003". They go on to say, "Let's compare the LTZ400 to the YFZ450. LTZ400 has a reverse gear, the YFZ does not. In ATV Connection magazine, 2 out of 3 test riders chose the LTZ400. MSRP on the YFZ is $6899, MSRP on the LTZ400 is $5699. Come on out to....."

I just had to chuckle when I heard that. That's some of the most misleading criteria when comparing 2 sport quads.

One thing I'll say about our Z400. It's not the fastest or best handling quad. It however does EVERYTHING very well and I could see how the average person would pick it over the YFZ or 450R for that matter. Everything meaning it's "pretty fast", runs great and is way smoother than most. Seat is comfy, Ergo's are spot on, It's light, reliable, shifting make my YFZ look silly, and add in reverse and electric start and you really do have a great balanced quad.

The Z is a great sport quad for the average person. A more skilled rider will soon be looking for more "umpth" and that is where the YFZ and TRX come in. Things should get interesting when Suzuki brings its own 450 to the table. If it retains reverse and electric start, it may end up selling more than both the Yamaha AND the Honda. (assuming they can put a decent frame on the thing - see "gussets" suzuki)

I serioously doubt that the Z450 will retain its reverse. That quad is aimed at a whole other market. what would be the extra weight be for reverse you think? another thing to brake nder sever race conditions.

I sold my z400 for a yfz, I ride mostly in the dunes and am not convinced it was a good idea. I wished the z's were easy to make fast.

I heard it on Y105.3 and I think it was for ASK Powersports here in columbus. Funny thing is they sell both quads too.

The commercial for was McCune's (sp?) Motorsports in Mansfield and Midwest Motorsports in Uniontown. I think I heard it on WMMS.
