250ex or 300ex they are fun and fairly quick to learn on and having reverse is nice just starting out. Then by the time you get the R they will be updated with the stuff they may need now.

If your new to riding, don't buy an r. Work your way up to one. People that get a Quad like this with little or no expierience,a lot of times become some kind of negative statistic and screw it up for the rest of us. Try to use some common sense[which really is not all that common]. A guy I know just got his 12 yr old kid, who might weigh 100lbs, a 450r. I tried to talk him out of it, but he did it anyway. The poor kids mom probably can't sleep anymore.

4 hours is experanced! I hit 4 hours in a one day ride easy. I beleive that you are not experanced untill you have at least a year under your belt of riding. I am on my third year, and just getting where I can ride fast with out out riding my ability. For anyone not heavly experanced I would say go no bigger than the 400EX. It is plenty fast!

An if someone gets a R at the age of 13, the parents should be arrested for child abuse. That is just plain stupid on the parents part!

Cry, complain, try to make me out to be an idiot, I could care less. I have been riding quads on and off for at least 13 years, and know how I was at a young age.

i'm 21 and ridden a decent amount and just bought my first quad. yes it is a 450R but even though i love it i still kind of wish i would have gotten a 400ex and learned more on it i know it would have been a lot easier to do it that way

I just turned 16 and got a 450r, but before this I've worked my up from a 1985 TRX125, then a 250EX now this. I got my 250ex when I was 13 and loved it. I learned a lot on that thing. If I were you I'd go with a 300ex or something in that area.

I'm 15, been riding since i was about 9...im pretty fast..and the 450R is still a lot to handle. Id say either a 300ex or a 400ex...dont get a 250ex.....buy one with a clutch so you will know how to ride it.....i dont care how old you are it would be stupid to move from a 250ex to a 450R

You dont know what your in for, its the best sport there is!

If I were you I'd look into a 400ex I doubt youll even be able to crank it up. Plus the 450r has a high powerband(meaning that you gotta keep the revs up to get power out of it) IMO a 400ex is perfect for a beginner CHEAP-EASY TO RIDE-ELECTRIC START

You can get a 450r so you can be the coolest guy in your neigborhood but the other kids are gonna laugh when you stall it a low speed and you cant ride it to 1/4 of it potential

I'm not flamin I'm just being real. at 13 I was riding a bayou 220... Here are the quads you need to stay away from:

BANSHEE, YZ450, TRX450R, RAPTOR, DS650

If you want to be fast you need to start with something smaller. When you get all you can get out of that then move up. It will make it that easier to go fast on a bigger bike then just jumping to it. I would start with a 250ex or 300ex then a 400 then maybe the 450.

When I was 13 I rode my dads 86' 200x three wheeler. Then at 15 I got an 85' LT 250r. I rode that to its potential and broke the frame a number of times. Then at 16 I got a real quad an 86' 250r. Learned how to race on that and I rode it to its potential. Now I am 18 and have a 450R. I think starting small will get you balls to win it all!!:)

I'm turning 16 in a month and I am in the process of building a 310R. I have been riding for about 4 years. The first thing I ever rode was a Blaster and I rode that for almost 2 years. All it had was a pipe and at 12 that was enough for me. Then I switched to a 400ex with pipe, filter, and jet kit and I have been riding that up until now. All we ride is sand and I would consider myself a pretty good rider.

Those bikes aren't though the only thing I have rode. I have rode my step dads 410R, Banshees, and a lot of other things. After all though I would say at 13 start with a Blaster, put a few mods on it after a while then after a year or two move up to a 400ex. You can do A LOT to a 400ex and they are pretty much trouble free. Whatever you do, do not get the 450 for your first bike. Like many have said you won't be able to ride it to it's potential and you will be very dissapointed...Later

Yeah, you'll definitely go faster starting out on a smaller quad. I started with that 125 when I was 7 yrs. old and then I got my 250 at 13, and when I raced that in MX I got 2nd out of probly 10 kids. Now I'm racing in the A class on the 450. So it def. helps to work up.

If you have little experience on any ATV, then it would be rediculous to get a 450r.A person should have at least 4-5 years of frequent riding in my opinion. Are you one of those kids who wants daddy to get you the best so you can brag, but really won't be able to handle it worth s***?

Seriously, start with a recon, ozark,250ex, z250, 300ex, blaster, you know what I mean? If you were into dirtbiking I highly doubt you would by a crf450 or a cr250, just because quads are lower to the ground doesn't make them easier to ride.

Yeh i would say the 400ex would be your best bet. i had a 300ex when i was 13 and moved up to the 400 when 14. the 300 is a good machine but u might as well start out right. so i would suggest the 400.;)

Boy things are a lot different now than when I was a kid. I can't imagine people buying $6-7k quads for thier kids to play on.

BTW start out small, you can have lots of fun on about any quad. Resale on quads is good if you don't tear it up.

Yeah, dude you may be cool with your 450 showing it off but as soon as you get out and really hurt yourself cause you have really no idea what your doing, it won't be that cool. Yeah, I am only 15 (for another month) but I have been riding for almost 4 years. Like I said I am in the process of building a 310R but I have quite a bit of experience.

Also like others have said you can have a lot of fun on smaller bikes. You will have more fun riding something you can handle. Shoot I still have fun riding my cousins Scrambler 90 and it's really fun riding my cousins Blaster and my bros 250ex. They may be smaller, lest powerful bikes but they are still crazy fun.

No matter what way you look at it though, the best thing for you to get hands down is either a Blaster or a 400ex. Those are they best for you and you will love it a lot more riding one of those to it's full potential instead of riding a 450 you'll probably be too scared to get into 5th gear...Later

I'm 15... started riding 5 years ago on a bike (cr80) Boy that thing has some power! roar  .. or did for awhile there. Then by about 14 I started riding a cr125 and 400ex. So for over a year now I have had ATV experience with a dirtbike background. I feel really comfortable on an ATV and have moved up to a 450r now and it rocks!!!! I would recommend a 400ex because it's pretty basic and easy to ride. The gears and shifting process is very forgiving and you don't have to be up on it all the time. Great beginner bike.

My friend that is 18 just come to buy a Raptor 2002 whit pipe, a-arms, k&n, axle, elka's. He didn't have any experience except when we let him ride our quads and now he ALWAYS get hurt because it's too much powerfull for is skill and he hurt a tree, fall off of is quad.

Me I start whit a Moto 4, then a LT-230, a 300EX and now I ride a 250R and I never get hurt or have major crash.

Just go with a 300EX then go bigger..400EX, 450R..
