Well I just got my frame back and it looks AWSOME!!!! It is lolly pop red translucent with a metalic base coat. It looks REALLY nice. Can't wait to get it together. In the sun it just shines! Once I get it all together I'll get some pics posted.

How do you post pics on here? I've heard something about being a paid member or something? If so how much is it?

If you want to put them in the post do you have to be a member or do you just have to have them on the net somewhere? I have a web site that I can post them on and just put a link to them but I'd like to be able to put them in the post. Thanks!

yeah if you have the picture on the internet somewhere you can post it, just click the IMG button when you post and then copy the link where the picture is and paste it to the window that pops up, and press ok. It should post the picture.

Ya the pics don't do it any justice. When you get it out in the sunlight it really glistens! Looks AWSOME!

The sub frame I had done the same color. I didn't want a bunch of polished aluminum on this bike because I didn't want to have to keep up on it all the time. I'm thinking of haveing the A arms chromed though and maybe a Duncan bumper. I think the chrome will really accent the color and look really nice. I'm just going to have a hard time swallowing that $180.00 price tag on the bumper.

I didn't want it to be the same as the YFZ but it is close. When you see it in person you can tell it is really a different color.

It wasn't to hard to put it back together. A couple bots that run through the frame were kinda tough because the thicker powedercoating but it wasn't to bad at all. I guess it helps that I do this stuff for a liveing.:D

True, I didn't have mine do by a pro powdercoater I had it done by a friend that powdercoats hospital beds and stuff so it was probably a little different. The bearing that goes up in there for the stem was especially hard to get in due to the added thickness of everything. BTW did you receive the pm I sent you?

Didn't forget. Just haven't done them yet. I was afraid it wouldn't look good with them silver but the silver actually goes really good with the red. You can't powdercoat them because of the bushings in the ball joins. So I was going to have them chromed. I think the chrome will really accent the red nicely. I am also going to make some carbon fiber frame guards for where your boots rub on the frame and rub the paint off. I think the carbon fiber will allso accent the red very nicely.

Thanks. My dad was telling me he couldn't belive that I would go buy a brand new bike then tear it all apart.:D I was haveing some serious thoughts about if I wanted to do it or not because I didn't know how it was going to look. Now I'm glad I did. I love it!

If you want the shifter done I can do that. I actually did mine. I will need to have it over a weekend because all my powdercoating stuff is at my parents house and I can only get there over a weekend. Shoot me a message if you want it done. You can get the stickers at your local Honda dealer. If they don't have them they can order them for you.

That frame looks REALLY good. I have always been a big fan of the candy powdercoats. Are you planning on maybe changing the color scheme of the plastic in the future? I was thinking some silver plastic with red graphics would look awesome and different. Either way, looks great.

How to you prep a frame for shipping? Shrink wrap? Big box?

Pappy
03-05-2004, 01:50 PM
if your just sending the frame, take it to ups and they will affix a shipping tag. you dont need to wrap it or box it at all.

when i return them, they are bundled with bubble wrap and then the entire frame is shrink wraped and taped up. i use 1/4 inch cardboard to protect any area that would recieve transit damage and what not. it actually takes me a good 30 minutes to package one up:p

The guys at Northwest are pretty cool. And are very easy to talk with. I have spoken with them before, getting tips on my own powdercoating. When I finally do mine, I'm going to do it myself;)

Go to www.eastwood.com and click on powdercoatings on the left hand side of the screen. I've got a Hot Coat gun that I use and it works really good. I just have a standard household oven that I use and bake it at 400 degrees for about 20 min. The gun costs about $150 for the complete kit. I don't usually use any kind of booth. Just spray it either outside or in the garage if it is windy and bake it and it's done! I'd have done my frame but it won't fit in the oven.:(

i've been in the process of tearing mine down for about two weeks. i'm just working a little at a time though.do you have any tips for someone not as exspirienced as you for the tear down and rebuild? i've actually got most of it apart just have main frame, electronics (pain in the as*), and a few small parts. the whole story behind it is available here (http://www.trx450r.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=802)

The biggest part about disassembly is to either label and bag all the parts and thier nuts and bolts. it makes re-assembly a snap.

also when removing parts , take some pictures if needed so you can reference them when ya re-assemble.

inspect everything twice, while the parts are at the pc'rs you will have time to order any worn items. check all seals and bearings for damage or wear etc.

the biggest tip is take your time and remain organized. i cant follow my own advice because i tear'em down and all the bolts and spare parts go in a big box...then i just reassemble from memory:p

Pappy i know the arms can't be coated but are there any spots on the swing arm that i should tell them not to coat also. i wasn't sure about were some of the bearings go? any other do or don't spots would be good if you have any.

Pappy
06-16-2004, 11:18 AM
you dont want powder in the bearing carrier area, or on the areas where bearings and seals will be. all bolts holes should be masked etc.
