Is there a way I could put 400ex +2 Lonestar a-arms and 400ex elka shocks on my 300ex to make it extra wide without those special brackets?

You do need the aftermarket brackets.

Unless you want a horrible ride by stuffing the shocks in, or want to get custom made shocks for it then no. You need the bracket because 400ex shocks are about 3 1/2 inches longer.
