Remote Rezzies vs Piggybacks

Just wondering if there is any kind of a performance difference in the remotes and piggyback shocks or is it just a preference thing.
I was checking Elka prices and they all seem to be the same for either option.

piggybacks I have heard hold more fluid & stay cooler for longer since they are further away from the actual shock :confused:

no gain either way, however the pigs are two less things to mount and find room for....it is personal preference.

Being able to remove 2 bolts and the entire shock is sweet. Messing with a hose then unbolt the remote rezzy and work it thru the frame, etc, etc, etc, is a PITA. I'll never run anything but a piggy back from this point on. Screw the remotes and their 2 foot of hose and 2nd mounting location..:blah:

I agree with Rico. I had Elka Triple Rates with the Remotes, and when I went to order my new LT Quadrates I made darn sure to get the Piggybacks. They should be here today. Just one less extra thing you have to worry about, and with running a stabilizer it can get a bit crowded up front with remotes.

They might be a pain, but they look pretty cool. I've got piggybacks, but I like the way the rezzies look. Is there a price difference between them?

They are the same price for either one. I like the piggy back myself. Some people have said that if you damage the resevoir then you have to replace the shock body which is not true. I know that you would have to get in one heck of a crash to break anything on the Elka shocks. They are very strong.:cool:

remotes are PITA... specially trying to mount them by ur self my god!!!!

but i heard piggy backs will hit the lower a-arms if u bottom out.. but thats probably false info

the piggyback rezzie is a large target for you to smack going by a tree, a hose is much less likely to get hit, at is almost a 1/10 the size of the rezzie, i like remotes myself, look cooler imo

I have seen countless hoses get pulled apart over the years but not once have I seen a piggyback brake off on any brand of shock.


Quadfather, you can add remotes but adding piggys would cost as much as a new set of shocks.

One thing I've noticed about my remote rezzies is that the hoses can frey easily and get leaks where the hose goes into the shock & cans. I've had to fix mine twice for leaks already...

I got my Elka LT Piggybacks last night and I like them much better over the Remotes I had. I think they will look better also.

It not that it's a hassle but some of us like to work smarter and not harder....;) Good motto to follow I think..:D try usin it sometime...:blah: :devil:

I guess like in my situation once you get air scoops and a dampner on, finding space to mount more chit is a headache.

Elka actually told me that Piggybacks will heat up and get really hot since they are so close to the shock. Said if you ride alot they will heat up and not perform as well....i dont really mind taking the extra 10 min and mounting/unmounting the remote rezzie's...and like other people said..they do look cool, lol

Im not really sure about what elka said...it kinda sounds like BS to me, and i think piggybacks look cool too!

Not sure who you talked to but they have dyno charts that show that there is no difference.

What exactly do these reservoirs do? And what is the diff between dual rate and triple rate?

triple rate absorbs more bumps but I have heard you will not notice a difference between the triple rate & dual rate on stock a-arms because theres not enough leverage on the shock. :confused: rezzies also hold more fluid so it lets your shocks perform like new for along time even during hours long rides

I use the remote rezzie, just to hide them from rock damage. We get roosted alot by the bikes out here. I believe thats the reason Honda moved their piggybacks to the rear of the shocks on the 450R.

i had piggy backs on my old elkas for over 1 1/2 years... not one scratch was ever put in the paint on my rezzy and i got roosted hard MANY times... i've hit many trees... and even got a face full of dirt and rocks at h.m. from ricos pissed off 416 and pappys badass 426... u'll never bust a rezzy off

I don't think you could bust them either. I put mine behind the frame to protect from roost damage. Most of you guys back east have NO CLUE what desert roost is all about. We race the same course as about 400 bikes, at the same time. LOTS of roost. Hammers the front of your quad. Our frames look like crap after 1/2 a season. Definetly a good reason to go with the remote rezzies, and hide them.

trust me i know what roost is... i've seen rocks the size of baseballs comin off the front of my quad before... there was no paint left on my stock a-arms...


not only that but we have sticks and tree branches constantly hittin us also...

In any kind of roost I think it would be very hard to mess up the piggybacks. Seems in most of the magazines the desert guys are running the piggybacks anyways.

I do it to keep them from getting hammered. I'm not sure if the roost will damage them, it's just one less thing to worry about. I know someone that sent his shocks in to have the shafts replaced due to roost, and they recommended replacing the rezzies as well. Both of us run our rezzies hidden now.

I could imagine that would get expensive after a while. Man if that stuff is destroying shocks, I can't even think about getting hit by it. I'm guessing you guys wear chest protectors?

OH YEA! Chest protectors are a must. Most of the bikes aren't bad, but you get guys like Ty Davis and Johnny Cambell come by you dicing for the lead, you're getting some NASTY roost. It's all part of the fun.

question right here....when you buy the shocks with the remote rezzy does it come with those mounting things,i forgot what the name they are called,but just wondering or do i have to go get my own:confused:
